Jackson County Executive issues executive order declaring state of emergency

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Jackson County Executive Frank White, Jr. – in consultation with County Health Department Director Bridgette Shaffer, MPH and County Administrator Troy Schulte – today issued an executive order declaring a State of Emergency in Jackson County in an effort to reduce the spread of COVID-19. This State of Emergency will expand the order issued earlier today by the City of Kansas City, Missouri to all of Jackson County.

“This fast-moving virus does not know city, county or state lines. It is critical that our response is not limited by such geographical boundaries either,” said Jackson County Executive Frank White, Jr. “While the health concerns posed by the virus are serious, it is important that our community not panic. We will continue to closely monitor the situation in collaboration with local, regional and national health experts, who will help guide our response to this quickly changing situation.”

The executive order calls for no large group events of 1,000 or more people and applies to all of Jackson County except for the City of Kansas City.

Currently, there are no cases of COVID-19 in Jackson County. The Jackson County Health Department is working closely with its partners across the community and region to monitor this rapidly evolving situation. The public can stay informed by signing up for digital updates or submitting questions to public health experts in the County by visiting www.jacohd.org.

The executive order is attached.
