Crowds of people enjoying a sunny day at Loose Park whilst a pandemic rages across the globe, shelter-in-place orders warn of lethal danger and workers scramble to earn a living probably confirms that middle-class Kansas City is comprised of some of the worst people on the planet.
To wit . . .
SHAME ON KANSAS CITY FOR FAILING TO TAKE STAY AT HOME ORDERS SERIOUSLY AS LOCAL CORONAVIRUS STATS SPIKE!!!
This same scenario played out in New Orleans during Mardi Gras. Now health officials are dealing with a historic nightmare scenario. Still, we can forgive the party-goers because rules and news coverage didn't really reflect the seriousness of the situation.
Now the risks of the pandemic are well known and so many locals aren't rising to the occasion of this historic challenge but instead, selfishly, soaking up the sunshine and so many germs at the park.
Here's the recap . . .
"Thursday's mild temperatures and sunshine brought out those wanting to enjoy it at Loose Park. Social distancing didn’t seem to be a concern for many who walked or jogged the paths around the park just south of the Country Club Plaza."
KC area playgrounds still busy during stay-at-home order
"Public officials warn parents, kids to stay away
"Parks employees spent Thursday installing signs at the city’s 112 playgrounds telling people playgrounds and courts are closed to comply with the city’s stay-at-home order.
"I was surprised at the number of people, you know, once the weather kind of turned nice yesterday, at the number of people that didn’t seem to be complying with the stay-at-home order," Jeff Hurley Kansas City Park Ranger supervisor."
Sadly, none of this is shocking.
Kansas City has suffered a horrific and historic spike in deadly violence for about a decade and most locals simply tune it out until a friend, coworker or family member is touched by rising crime.
Gentrification is often promoted by the upwardly mobile denizens at the expense of the working poor and only to garner profit from a speculative and artificially inflated real estate market.
The cowtown party scene so often rages out of control yet only earns the attention of local media, politicos and patrons when an innocent person is killed in the crossfire.
And while there is a legitimate debate about the eventual conclusion of stay at home orders and public lockdowns, we're not even a week into the public health precation and already Kansas City has demonstrated a remarkable lack of restraint, community concern and compassion.
The truth is that Kansas City habitually ignores the death and suffering of their neighbors and the Coronavirus pandemic is no exception.
Can't say I disagree. But don't overlook so many people who are doing their part and working to help others in need. That should be highlighted as well.
ReplyDelete^^^ True, but this blog has never been about feel good stories. I noticed the reporting but most of the "pundits" are very hesitant to admonish their neighbors. That's why I like TKC, we don't give a fuck about that polite bullshit.
Delete@8:13 Lulz.
ReplyDeleteHey now, we've got that "momentum" that can't slow down. No black swan here in KC. Nothing stops our party. Did I hear somebody say FROSTY?

ReplyDeleteYou can't get it from going to the park or playground as long as you wipe things off you touch and don't get in someones face. This is getting ridicules.
Hell, New Orleans had Mardi Gras...one of the organizers has already gone to Hell.
ReplyDelete8:26 AM STFU and stay inside you idiot.

ReplyDeleteA Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte served as a welcome distraction in the midst of a Red Wing conspiracy!!!
I fucked a woman from the neighborhood last night but didn’t make out with her. That’s as close to social distancing as I could manage in that situation.
ReplyDeletegood article, tkc.

Oh yeah but.... What the fuck don't you understand about "stay at home"! Yeah but.... those warm and fuzzy suggestions keep me in my comfort zone.
ReplyDeleteAny gathering INCREASES the possibility of infection. Stay at home DECREASES that possibility to near zero.
Your logic is the same mentality that in the 1950(s) lulled the population into feeling warm and fuzzy about getting under a desk to protect one from a nuclear bomb.
Yeah but wearing a condom always prevents pregnancy! Wrong Xanax boy, lots of people are on the planet because of that misconception.
Staying home as instructed GUARANFUCKINTEES the likelihood of not catching this virus. Do we really need to debate this?
8:26am thinks it is getting "ridicules".
ReplyDeleteMany people in the area don't think rules apply to them and they won't catch anything so they run around as they please. Stores still can't keep TP on the selves as the hogs called shoppers take all they can as fast as they can. Kansas City home of the overly taxed and really fucking stupid people.
ReplyDelete^^^ Except they're sill voting "no confidence" in the National, State and Local Governments with their wallets!
ReplyDeleteNobody believes that anyone currently in Government has the ability to provide the Leadership that this Country needs now.
Therefore they see the need to "grab it while its still there" as an "essential activity".
If you are one of those buying into the pablum and falsehoods spewing out of 18600 Pennsylvania, my advice is to NOT put your bagged leaves at the curb in April, you're likely to have a better use for them before all this is over!
Continue on with your lives. If you are high risk then stay quarantined. The rest of us should return to work and our lives.

ReplyDeleteSunday In The Park With Germs!
10:53 and many who are not high risk are getting infected so you retarded view is moot.
ReplyDeleteSo 8:49...so what is it like to fuck yo mama?
ReplyDeleteDoes she suck and gag like yo sista?
Sounds like you already got the situation under control.........
......pusselfuck!
10:53AM When you become infected, now your a risk to everyone. For those of you that try to normalize this situation, please switch your attitude from denial to acceptance of the fact that this is a major World changing life event that is unfolding on an epic scale. Our Nation and for the most part the World is woefully unprepared to handle the full scope of this virus now and for the future as this may very well be only the first wave of many. Until we have medicine to minimize contraction like we do the flu, life will not be normal for a long time. Our medical abilities are lacking because of our personal and technological arrogance and ignorance.
ReplyDeleteSTAY THE FUCK HOME for awhile, let the medical system catch up, don't add to the problem. Your fellow humans appreciate your willing compliance.
watch the international news about italy and spain if you think corona is a hoax.
ReplyDeleteor, wait two weeks and watch new york city.
