Access To Jackson County Courthouse Limited To Protect Against Coronavirus

Jackson County Executive announces limited public access to County offices

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Jackson County Executive Frank White, Jr. is announcing today that effective immediately, the County will limit public access to County offices. Changes include the closure of the assessment, collection and recorder of deeds offices to the public at the downtown courthouse. Taxpayers who need in-person assistance from these offices should use the contact information below to schedule an appointment with staff at the Historic Truman Courthouse. The west door of the downtown courthouse will remain open only for the public to access the 16th Circuit Court and for candidates to file for office.

For the safety of our residents and County staff, the public should utilize the services provided by these departments via the following:

Assessment Department

Taxpayers needing assistance from the Department of Assessment can email assessment@jacksongov.org or call (816) 881-1330. If Assessment staff determines that a face-to-face meeting is necessary, taxpayers can schedule an appointment by calling the appropriate telephone number listed above.

Collection Department

Taxpayers needing assistance from the Department of Collection can email collections@jacksongov.org or call (816) 881-3232. Many questions can also be answered by going to our website at www.jacksongov.org. As a reminder, taxpayers can pay their taxes online, by mail, or by using exterior drop boxes located at the downtown and Truman courthouse locations.

For appointments or questions call (816) 881-4608. For any other inquiries, including the recording fee schedule, visit www.jacksongov.org. Walk-in recordings or copy requests should be mailed to:

Jackson County Parks + Rec facilities will also close through, at least, Wednesday, April 15, 2020, including the registration office, historic sites, golf course, meeting facilities, campgrounds and marinas. Marina stores will be closed to the public with the exception of gas sales.

All Parks + Rec events, programs, leagues, workshops and classes are cancelled through April 30. Fees for any facilities that have already been booked will be refunded in full. Continued updates and additional information can be found on www.facebook.com/JacksonCountyParks or www.makeyourdayhere.com. County parks and trails will remain open.

These additional preventative measures are being made to mitigate the spread of COVID-19. Health officials continue to stress the importance of practicing social distancing and good hygiene, as well staying home if you are sick.
