TKC EXCLUSIVE!!! KANSAS CITY 'FIGHT FOR $15' WORKER THANKS PROTESTS NOT PREZ TRUMP FOR HIGHER WAGES!!!

Following this week's State Of The Union address there has, thankfully, been a discussion about the lives of working people.

Whilst Speaker Nancy ripping up the President's speech was the tabloid focus, serious people attempted to ignore the sideshow and consider arguments about alleged improvements into working-class lives.

A quick rundown of headlines which exemplify the debate from both sides:

Fox News: Trump's 'Great American Comeback' helping low-income workers prosper, president says

MSN: 'Blue collar boom'? Not quite, Mr. President

PBS: Trump claims his policies are driving great economic growth. What does the data say?

Notice that Prez Trump has stopped touting the stock market as critics have refocused economic arguments on a much more vast segment of the American public: The working poor.

This debate seems to resonate more than most when it comes to economic struggle in Kansas City:

President Trump touted low-wage worker pay gains but much of the credit goes to state minimum wage hikes

In Missouri, after effective grassroots advocacy and a statewide vote there is finally some movement on minimum wage increases.

But the struggle for local fast food union fighters continues as wages still fall well below a $15-per-hour goal.

The irony here is that many local Conservatives who support Prez Trump will tout economic gains for low-income workers during his tenure then TURNAROUND and oppose wage increases for those very same laborers. Similarly, protesters are hesitant to acknowledge that without the economic boom under the current administration there would be little opportunity to increase their salaries.

And all of these considerations preceded a quick talk with one of our protester friends. Here's what she said:

"I don't see it. If you say the economy is doing better than I guess that's right but when I look around at folks who are helping us to get a better deal, it's just one or two people in office . . . The majority of what I see making a difference is from Stand Up KC. That's how we've been speaking up and finally we're getting some support. I think even companies realize that when they pay their people better wages, everyone wins. Customers get better service . . . The work environment improves and the whole business is better for it . . . I'll be a long time before computers can do EVERYTHING and until then we should have a right to have a union like anybody else."

Not wanting to take any more time away from my protester buddy as the midday crowd grew more intense, I departed with my fast food bounty in order to write this post.

Of course, she screwed up my order.

The big distraction here is the slap-fight over "socialism" and talking points intended to mislead the public into a culture war debate rather than focus on more broadly supported AMERICAN UNION and the very CAPITALIST struggle for leverage and more money.

Nevertheless, the plight of Kansas City low-income workers persists amid the rising cost of living as both Prez Trump and Progressives make promises to these voters who have struggled to bring their concerns to the forefront of 2020 election season.

  2. As an employer, we used to be able to get minimum wage workers for our easist positions. It currently takes $13/hr. to get anyone to show up. This doesn't happen if there aren't many jobs. The only thing the protests have done is make more kiosks appear in retail locations. Been in a Walmart McDonald's or Taco Bell lately. And yes robots can flip burgers. The Trump economy is working!!

    1. $13 is a rip off of workers and taxpayers. The workers deserve and get various public assistance just to get by.
Employer, you are a leech sucking at the nanny state teat while talking from both sides of your mouth.

    2. I suppose your a democrat and support subsidizing workers with free benefits. This gives workers no incentive to work harder to EARN more. We promote almost exclusively from within have great benefits and offer 100% tuition re-imbursment. I started at the bottom and worked my way to the top. The company payed cor my degree. It wasn't easy but well wortb it. A concept lost with bloomers now days. Instead they just demand what they want. And you enable and support it.

  7. Of course it's not Trump increasing wages.

In 2020, 24 states are increasing their minimum wage. Those were passed by Democratic legislatures or by popular statewide vote.

In 2019, 18 states increased their minimum wage. In 2018, 18 states increased their minimum wage. 2017, 19 states. 2016, 14 states.

Federally, the last raise was 2009 under a Democratic congress and Obama. The GOP Congress refused to increase it during the next 8 years. The new Democratic US House passed an increase last year, but surprise, McConnell has buried in the senate along with hundred of other bills.

Trump's only policy intended to boost wages was a Wall Street tax cut that has instead generated record stock buybacks and federal debt. Efforts to bring back coal and manufacturing jobs have also failed. Sad.

  11. The real facts2/8/20, 6:56 PM

Mo Rage you miserable cunt. It isn't the President's position or job to get you a higher wage. If you worked for a living outside your McDonalds job you'd make more money. But you're like that lowlife Byron and would rather sit around and bitch about low pay rather than do something to improve your living standards.

If any stupid dumb motherfucker thinks your government is going to see that you make good money working somewhere you just prove how you're not smart enough to have a decent paying job.

The more you totally non skilled workers demand to be paid the more companies will work to replace your stupid ass. 75% of all fast food workers are overpaid now based on their ability to do a simple job.

  12. Only a stupid fuck works for minimum wage. What else on this earth would you settle for minimum on ? If your looking for an answer to why you get minimum . It is because your efforts have been minimum.

  13. Too bad you cry baby bitches expect someone else to make your way. I never expected it . Maybe that's why I make 7 times your 15. Guess you reply warriors should've paid more attention to 8th grade.

  16. 6:56 said "It isn't the President's position or job to get you a higher wage."

Uh, except that's exactly what Trump promised. He said his tax cuts would bring $4,000 to $9,000 in raises to average workers. He was wrong.

But he also promised 6% GDP, better cheaper healthcare, new manufacturing jobs, a balanced budget, and something else... oh yeah, a big beautiful wall paid for by Mexico. So failing to deliver on his promises shouldn't surprise anyone.

  20. I was a Union member for 30 years, The way the company pays and benefits it provides creates the need for that union. I was a dues paying member that honored and walked our picket lines that happened only two times....You have to remember that companies do not just give out of the goodness of their hearts...IMO. I hope they survive but they need to clean up and represent all members not just what companies allow them to do.
