TKC BREAKING NEWS!!! ZIPCAR SHUTS DOWN IN KANSAS CITY!!!

Another transit tech innovation bites the dust amid car culture dominated Kansas City.

For those who aren't familiar: Zipcar is an American car-sharing company and a subsidiary of Avis Budget Group. Zipcar provides automobile reservations to its members, billable by the minute, hour or day; members may have to pay a monthly or annual membership fee in addition to car reservations charges.

Zipcar was geared toward tech savvy local denizens and it enjoyed expansion and support from Kansas City Mayor Sly James back in 2016.

Now, an e-mail to customer and a quick check phone call to confirm REVEALS THE OPERATION SHUT DOWN IN THIS COWTOWN.

Here's the word with special thanks to KICK-ASS TKC TIPSTERS who are much smarter and far more wired into tech than TKC:

You're receiving this email because you are part of Kansas City's Zipcar community. Unfortunately, we're leaving Kansas City.

We're stopping operations this Saturday, February 29 and cancelling all reservations from that day on in Kansas City.

We're leaving town, but your membership still gives you access to thousands of Zipcars in other cities when you're traveling. If you have any questions, please reach out at 1-866-4ZIPCAR.

We're sorry for the inconvenience, and we're so grateful for your membership.

Sincerely,

The Team at Zipcar

  1. I think a lot of this is due to the other rental car companies catching up with technology. Now all of them have and app and make the process somewhat easier. It was a good idea when it started but the innovation hit the whole industry.

  2. And driving around with zipcar written all over your car sucks. That's the reason I didn't use the app.

  3. One less app spying on you and stealing and selling all your personal information.

    Now that is innovation.

  4. So much for the damn "creative class" that sly kept telling us about.
