International history and the shape of the modern day world was crafted in the metro years ago . . . Here's a thoughtfully crafted community news note on a local political connection to the Holy Land:

Truman Torah story is deeply personal for one rabbi

Wednesday, for the first time in more than 71 years, Rabbi Ezra Michael Finkelstein saw the sacred Torah given by his father for his bar mitzvah, when Ezra turned 13 years old. No, his Torah - a scroll of with the body of Jewish religious writings - had not been lost.

"The Jews, I find, are very, very selfish. They care not how many Estonians, Latvians, Finns, Poles, Yugoslavs, or Greeks get murdered or mistreated as displaced persons as long as the Jews get special treatment. Yet when they have power, physical, financial, or political neither Hitler nor Stalin has anything on them for cruelty or mistreatment of the underdog." --- Harry Truman

  2. Also attributed to HST:
"Hell, if Jesus Christ couldn't please those people, how do you expect me to."

  3. Here's some info from the Jewish Telegraph Agency, it shows one of the quotes in context. Jewish people don't really think that fondly of Truman in retrospect:

    I don't blame them.
