THE TKC SATURDAY NIGHT PLAYLIST!!! KANSAS CITY MEXICAN RESTAURANT LEADER QUARANTINES CORONA!!!

For late night denizens of our blog community we offer a glimmer of hope and news of proactive solutions to fear confronting Kansas City and the world.

Recently, mainstream media offers insight into beer panic:

New York Post: Americans are avoiding Corona beer amid coronavirus outbreak

Vice: In a survey, 38 percent of people said that they wouldn't order the beer, which is experiencing an "unfortunate brand name moment."

Evening Standard: The brewer behind Corona beer has warned of the steepest decline in quarterly profit for at least a decade after the coronavirus outbreak cost it $170 million (£132 million) in lost profit.

To wit . . .

KANSAS CITY'S TOP MEXICAN RESTAURANT INSIDER REVEALED THAT CORONA IS OFF THE MENU IN MANY WESTSIDE JOINTS AMID "CERVEZA VIRUS" FEAR!!!

Credit where it's due, readers recently told us that the Brits are calling the pandemic -- THE CERVEZA VIRUS -- in a cheeky and apropos twist.

We recently talked about this topic with a longtime sponsor of this blog: The eponymous "Captain Taco" who is renowned in local Latino neighborhoods and his name even rings out in the Northland.

No, not the cop who had the beef with some meanie former council lady but the de facto patron saint and Renaissance man of KCMO Mexican restaurants. Ask any Latino bus boy, server or bartender in town and most of them know Captain Taco . . . Also, I'm sure they'll enjoy answering impromptu customer questions about their cultural history.

Anyhoo, according to Kansas City's Captain Taco . . .

"We're not offering Corona. You can ask for it but it's not something we're going to spotlight for the next few weeks. We've taken most of the signs down and move to offer other beers which are honestly much better. Modelo, Dos Equis and Tecate are now selling quickly it was an easy but necessary transition . . . Most people would rather find better alternatives than overcome their prejudices. In my opinion, Corona is overpriced and watered down compared to better Mexican beers."

Still, the switcheroo is notable if only because it offers another insight into the level of understanding the most Kansas City residents are willing to undertake in order to enjoy a beverage with their dinner.

And so, we encourage our late night readers to expand their horizons and relax with this late night playlist on the topic of Mexican refreshment, island vacations and good times.

As always, thanks for reading this week and have a safe and fun Saturday night.

  1. Good times. I noticed the corona sign still up but they unplugged it. Call that a half measure.

    1. I would say that that I'm disappointed but not really. People make bad and good associations. It's why most fast food places use orange and yellows colors to get people to think they're excited about eating at some fast food dump. It's all a big scam but an effective one.

    2. ^^^ Why anybody would eat at a fast food restaurant is insane. It's barely food and a bad idea for both young people and adults.

    1. I would like to argue with the post but it does a good job of showing everyone that Kansas City Public Schools and a great deal of the Shawnee Mission district should be blamed for the current state of literacy and competence across the metro. Sad. Very sad.

  6. Are people really this stupid? Oh, nevermind ... Hillary got the most popular votes after having a private server, erasing tens of thousands of emails and busting up a lot of devices with hammers after getting a subpoena.

  12. That number of idiotic Americans isn't surprising at all. 38% rings a bell with me though...what is it? Oh, 38% is also about the number of moron Trump voters in this country. I would bet my house almost every single person who won't drink a Corona is also a Republican who watches a lot of Fox.
