  3. Railroads are still moving lots and lot of freight, they like many other places have figured out how to do it with less people. Men use to make up the trains now it's all done by computer. Men use to throw all the switches it's now done by computer. Trains no longer have a caboose, was a waste of manpower and that's why they are gone. A guy I know whose son is a UP man his first 15 years was laid off about as much as he worked. Now he has the seniority he should be safe till retiring. Many jobs every year are replaced by computers and machines. But a good machinist can find work anywhere. You can't go to work at a railroad and not quickly become aware of how they operate. They are more or less self sufficient when it comes to retirement and unemployment and have some very strange rules of how they do things. But if that isn't something you like then you best not plan on making a career with them because it's been that way for many years.

  4. Mr. Hypergobbledygoo

If trucking is in such a recession like you claim it is, please explain why my husband has only been home two days since 12/27? He keeps getting booked from one haul to the next with the same as no downtime other than DOT required. Sure he is making a lot of money during a time when freight is usually slow, but a recession, it sure the hell isn't. I do the books for our owner/operator hauling business with two trucks and the past three years have been our best. Neither truck is sitting in truck stops looking for loads or taking loads that barely pay for the fuel only. Get your facts correct or stop driving for places like JB Hunt or Schneider.

Catch you on the flip flop, we gone, bye bye fool.
