Newspaper Barely Considers Kansas City Pothole Czar Probs In Dreadful Op/Ed

Better news outlets offered FIRST WORD REPORTING on the problems with the proposed pothole czar, opposition on council and budgeting. Here's dead-tree-media barely trying to cover the topic . . . For those who can sneak past the paywall:

Will Mayor Quinton Lucas' proposed pothole czar make KC's neglected streets any better?

Potholes aren't a new issue in Kansas City. The rim-bending, tire-destroying craters have wreaked havoc on city roads in recent years, frustrating drivers and doing damage to vehicles as city crews play whack-a-mole with multiplying potholes. Now, Mayor Quinton Lucas says he wants to take a new approach to an old problem.

  1. The czar will only be better if he goes out and fills them... otherwise it's just superfluous management.

  3. How much does the czar position pay? $100k+? That in itself is a LOT of potholes. How about just sending crews out to start repairing? I spend a lot of time driving around KC during working hours and have yet to ever see a single crew out even filling potholes with cold-patch.

  4. KC needs a public school czar. This shitty schools are the real problem in the city

At some point, you have to put some men in a truck with some asphalt.

How many trucks were dispatched this morning?

    Why is this so hard?

  6. Just dispatching trucks isnt the issue you putz. Normally I see 2 to 3 trucks at a spot, 6 to 8 guys standing around while one shovels asphalt into a hole that most likely is damp ( Oil and water - yay ) No rollers anywhere to adequately apply it - tapping it with a shovel doesnt cut it. And 2 weeks later the same thing needs fixed again .....................
More often than not its the same spots needing repair again over and over. If thats the best they can do, just fill them with gravel, or worst case slap a plate over them Czar, ha ha ha. Who does he think he is ? Frank White

  8. Tens of reports for the same intersection and the issue is never addressed. I hear over and over again the issues with fixing potholes in the winter but the "temporary" fix is never a permanent fix. Reports to 311 online, 311, Facebook, Twitter, in person with the city councilor and the issue is never addressed. The infrastructure hasn't been maintained for decades. The city is living on borrowed time. The bill came due. Kansas City cannot afford the social state the current mayor is advocating. Socialism is a luxury of the well to do cities. No accountability. The contractors work isn't inspected by city employees. A call to the city to inspect the inferior work and the city employee calls the contractor. What are the city employees doing? The bill came due. No more free. The city cannot afford free. What is the point of living and working in a city and paying the taxes associated with the city if the elected officials don't address the infrastructure of the city.
