Kansas City Transit Honcho Seyz 'Social Justice Investment' Pays For Free Bus

Money line that might not add up and will probably inspire another tax increase . . .

Robbie Makinen, CEO of the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority, said public transit is the glue that holds a community together. "The return on investment for social justice, compassion and empathy far outweighs the return on investment for asphalt and concrete," he said.

Michelle Wu, a City Council member in Boston, wants everyone to ride for free on subways and buses that crisscross the region. Wu says the city is experiencing a "transportation crisis" as ridership declines, rush-hour traffic rises and the infrastructure of the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority continues to crumble.

  1. A bus system run on a principle of "social justice"?
You really can't make this stuff up!
When is KCMO going to address the social justice with the exorbitant water bills?
    Everybody gets a car!

    1. You seem fine with all the trillion dollar free highways and roads. You love to suck up free, you just don't want free stuff for people you look down at.

  2. Social justice: B.S. KC could quit having the most regressive tax system in the nation. No more sales taxes. Vote NO on the fire and police sales increases.

  7. Man was that ever a stupid story. Public transportation as a whole caters to those who won't support it and ignores those who could support it. I know a lot of people who said they would take the bus or other form of public transportation if it would work for them. But people don't want to spend 3 extra hours of the day to use the current public transportation. Yes you heard it right. My last 5 years of being a slave to the time clock I would have had to take three different busses to get within one and a half miles of where I worked and the same going home. No covered bus stops awaited me either so I was left to deal with the elements. And the real kicker is if I had to work late there would have been no buses running for me to get home on. For many to use public transportation they would have to drive to a bus stop and then park their car all day in someone's parking lot. Gee that's not being fair to that business owner who has to pay for that parking lot I am using just because it is sitting there, but many do just that. Public Transportation has never worked correctly in this metro area because those making the discussions running it are generally clueless how to do the job.

  11. Why is the street car free? Oh yeah, to encourage people to take public transportation.

Why didn't we just skip this step and go right to a free bus instead of building that silly street car?

Other than a coma splice, which is mild compared to the vast majority of the posts on TKC, could you explain what was wrong with the grammar in 1:01's post?
