Kansas City Pothole Czar Reconsidered

KCMO mayor hopes new 'pothole czar' can improve roads

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - As drivers continue to deal with potholes on metro roads, KCMO Mayor Quinton Lucas hopes to create a new "pothole czar" position in the city to address the issue and make conditions safer on the streets. Lucas announced the new job in a statement previewing his State of the City speech on Wednesday.

Very difficult to believe the KCMO public works department is so inept that it cannot effectively manage the pothole repair fiasco. Sounds more like Mayor Q is just looking to create another higher paying job for somebody to perform the responsibility of existing employees. Mayor Q making excuses for lack of performance will not solve the problem.

When KCMO's Public Works director also applied for the part-time "Pothole Czar" position, she explained to critics that it was no different than a firefighter routinely getting overtime pay!!!

  6. This is what happens when there is money for parking garages, jazz districts, and developers, but less for potholes. Priorities in this town are for the "glamorous" not the mundane. Every time a pothole is filled have a ribbon cutting.... millions will be filled in a week.

  9. If you need a new person to manage this after years of failure...great...but who is getting fired? Many folks probably should including the top five layers of city managers.

  10. What happened to the roads, sewers, street lighting and curbs??? Take a close look and you will find the the city council has deferred maintenance and build pet projects with little to no ROI for the city.
