KANSAS CITY MAYOR QUINTON LUCAS 'POTHOLE CZAR' IDEA HITS BRICK WALL!!!

Here's a reality check regarding yesterday's big speech and a reminder the City Hall functions under a "weak mayor" form of government.

Checkit:

KMBC: KC mayor's idea for pothole czar hits some bumps

Deets:

The mayor wants a pothole czar to immediately start filling the holes peppering the streets. But some think that is the real job of the Public Works director.

"I guess I get a little uncomfortable thinking we're going to hire somebody to do something that someone is already supposed to be doing," City Councilwoman Heather Hall said.

Bottom line . . . The council is challenging the mayor on a mere $50K and his promises to voters might not mean much as this budget is argued out.

Developing . . .

  1. The funds would be better spent on front line staff to actually fix potholes.

  3. Lucas will be pissed he can't hire his friend. Heather you best watch your back, Lucas will get Claire to deal with you.

  4. Instead of smiles, selfies, and empty rhetoric, why not try:
Setting specific performance standards with time frames for departments and "managers" who run them and hold them to account for results. Repeated poor performance=good-bye.
Objectively review ho KCMO is spending the taxpayers' money and evaluate projects and programs, including nonprofits and agencies. Have the guts to make serious decisions about expectations v results and re-direct money as appropriate.
    Management 101.
And stop being distracted by every special interest group and BIG idea that some consultant or grifter floats.

  5. Heather Hall is doing a great job for the First District and the City.

  6. They need to have the garbage trucks document all the potholes they see when doing their daily rounds in the city. Pay the drivers more for how many potholes they can document by location. No one sees the streets more than our daily garbage trucks.

  7. Stop handing out incentives to developers.

    Problem solved

  8. WTF do we a czar for...just fill the damn holes before they become craters.

  9. The pothole czar is a good idea. The public works director won’t do anything about the potholes. She’s too busy protecting incompetent and lazy staff. We need someone who can think, strategize, budget, and get things done. If Lucas has someone for that role, hire them. They’re not currently in public works.

  10. What is going on with the elimination of the Office of Creative Services? Does that mean Megan Crigger and Open Spaces are eliminated too or just moved to another department?

  11. Typical democrat wants to hire a “czar” to do the job someone else is responsible for. Another layer of incompetent people getting paid to do the same job. Quinton make the city government staff do their jobs.

  12. Oddly enough Mayor Selfie is using one portion of the Trump Playbook. Mayor Q uses social media to introduce new idea and receive feedback. Unfortunately, the city council isn't in the loop and the city council is the entity tasked with approval or disapproval. Lucas hears ideas and runs with the ideas.

Squirrel here, squirrel there, squirrel everywhere. Mayor Selfie, where is the next squirrel?

Heather Hall is correct. The pothole czar is the public works director and they should be doing their job and if not fire them.

  15. Hey City Council: Why don't you spend say $250,000 with KGR Consultants to see why the roads in Kansas City are so bad??? Perhaps they could discover what happened to the money in the city budget which was deferred to other areas of need? I hear Jermaine Reed(MLA) would be available to lead this study.

  16. With the surprise 4 million a year going to the convention hotel how does Mayor Lucas suppose he is going to pay someone to be a Czar? Time to cut back baldy!
