Apartment demand from high-income renters surge in downtown Kansas City

KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -- The Kansas City skyline has changed a lot in the past 50 years, especially with the recent addition of high-rise luxury apartment buildings. It's not just location, location, location anymore. Even though the Two Light building on Truman Road and Grand Boulevard sits in the heart of downtown, it takes more to attract tenants.

  1. Of course there is a demand. They pay no property taxes, ride free transportation while the city council is looking for the next TIF giveaway or CID.

  4. I can remember in the 1990's when only poor people lived downtown. Everyone seemed to want the Blue Valley area. Or Leawood. Why anyone wants to actually live downtown is puzzling. If it were similar to NYC then I would love it. But its KCMO, crime, potholes, and no grass or parks.

  5. The last line is literally the most important one of the story...that the market is becoming over saturated. I'm in my mid 30s and bought a house in Waldo several years ago because I don't like living in apartments, no matter how nice. Most people share this sentiment, they just don't know because they've lived in apartments all their life and don't know the benefits of not sharing walls. Plus there's a huge marketing blitz to sell/rent condos and it works, surprisingly. Nearly all of my friends live downtown/westport and they love coming over because it's a house and we can listen to music loud, sit on the porch, etc. House stuff. Condos are retarded

  6. I’m sure 10:53’s neighbors love seeing his friends come over for loud music night on the porch even if it is just Waldo.

  8. we do not even have enough diverse & vibrant comfort lounges to make investment in a few floors of high rent condos worthwhile for smithville bacon or alibaba to stick some chinese business men into.
