Attorney General Derek Schmidt announced in a news release Friday that two lawsuits were filed Thursday in Shawnee County District Court. The suits come as the Chiefs prepare to play the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday in the championship game.

Carl Franklin Mort, 41, has been charged with first-degree rape, four counts of first-degree sodomy and three counts of possession of a controlled substance.

A Wyandotte County jury on Thursday found MonDale Douglas guilty of three counts of premeditated first-degree murder in the deaths of 51-year-old Edward Rawlins, 46-year-old David Rawlins and 40-year-old Addrin Coats.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - A Shawnee woman was sentenced to more than three years in prison on Friday for an impaired driving crash that killed a woman and injured her husband. Vicky Walter, 57, was sentenced in Johnson County Court to 38 months in prison on a charge of DUI involuntary manslaughter.

Parker John Mays, 27, was charged Thursday, Jan. 16, with killing his 22-year-old sister, Layne Mays, at their family home in the upscale Lionsgate neighborhood near 151st and Nall.
