KANSAS CITY CHIEFS SUPER BOWL PARADE OPEN THREAD: TKC SEYZ CROWD SIZE ESTIMATES MOSTLY FAKE NEWS!!!

Today is yet another exercise in propaganda and hype for local government and mainstream media. Kansas City will crowd streets and freeze in order to cheer for the good fortune of millionaire athletes and a BILLIONAIRE owner with little or no benefit for anybody who didn't find a way to squeeze a buck out of this hysteria. Still, the historic Super Bowl win offers a rare opportunity for locals to crack a smile as the rising cost of living and stagnant wages make life harder for most residents over the long term no matter which politico rules over the masses and helps to advance the endless wars the public has all but forgotten. Accordingly, because real life victory is rarely achieved or sustained for long, this cowtown celebration of fun and games should suffice for now.

Even better . . .

CELEBRATE FAKE NEWS MISTAKENLY BRAGGING ABOUT CROWD SIZE AMID AN EMBARRASSING MEASURING CONTEST!!!

Local broadcasters are coming in hot and even amid the cold & snow they're already pushing the myth of one million people on the street.

Sadly, this focus on crowd size only serves to highlight the ongoing feelings of inadequacy that linger in Kansas City. There will be A LOT of people on the street and at the rally today . . . But local media pushing phony numbers just makes them look desperate and insecure.

Nevertheless, we share this collection of our favorite links amid today's good time . . .

It will be a fun moment for Kansas City. That's all that really matters today.

I guess we'll worry later about picking up the $500,000 bill.

Rando said...

^^^ For once we get a conservative estimate on costs. Probably a few hundred grand more than that when you factor in all of the overtime.

Appreciate the links to info and the snark but c'mon, the big issues deserves to be considered here:

The parade should have been postponed for better weather. KC is going to look really silly when warmer temperatures were just a few days away and we missed our chance to have a great event and instead just made people suffer in the snow.

no cell service already in KC. Damn shame. so much for cheap-ass 5G.

KC Fact Check said...

"The NFL is paying for the parade because it was within 72 hours of the victory."

^^^^^ Absolute lie made up for social media. KCMO taxpayers are footing the bill for the overwhelming majority of this parade just like KC paid around $350,000 for the royals parade.

Notice that the people who claim the NFL is paying never have a source to cite or a link to share. It's the team's PR trying to mislead the public. The Chiefs should help pay back KC taxpayers for this parade.

Much earlier in the season, Brittany Matthews took to social media (I think it was Twitter) to say, in essence, whenever people say mean, troll-y, ugly things to her online, she can alway count on Chiefs Kingdom to have her back and she is grateful for us.

I hope it stays that way. I hope Kansas City continues to be kind to her. She's just a young lady (with her own livelihood btw) who happens to be in love with a guy who plays football well. Let's not eat our own.

KSHB has 13 live locations. Amazing coverage. On-air talent including Dia Wall has a good command of players and facts. Did they have to bring in equipment from another NBC affiliate?

Chiefs staff even allowed a couple of fans to touch the Lombardi trophy--a special memory for a young kid.

Question for Tony--yes, KCPD is staffing the security. And you stated that it is the CITY paying for the parade. But wouldn't that actually be the Jackson County Sports Authority? That owns and manages the stadium? A shared taxing authority between City and County.

Travis now has the Lombardi. And former treasured Chief Duane Bowe #82-- being interviewed. Praising THIS year's team for its discipline. Just said, "I'd have given one of my legs to have played with Mahomes."

Wow.

A whole lotta kisses on that trophy--and hands that have wiped noses. Or their ass! In one of those 700 portapotties. I'd be wiping that trophy down with Purell!

It will be interesting to see what happens with KC next year. I have a feeling contract demands and free agency are not going to do good things to the team.

Anonymous said...

Every team faces this dilemma. The salary cap is designed to level the playing field. His contract will push several talented players out. There’s no way to avoid it.

Anonymous said...

What a bunch of thugs

Anonymous said...

Bad news for KC, if he’s leaving it all up to his agent. The agent’s obligation is to squeeze every last dollar for his client. Mahomes is an employee, not management. He can let management worry about the cap. Saying its all up to his agent is also a convenient way to “blame” other parties if they cannot agree on a number. “Hey, my agent did his best but we couldn’t agree on a number…”.

Chiefs will be one and done just like the Royals did. Remember when the Royals put all their money in that guy Saberhagen. Man talk about a total waste of money. The Chiefs will shoot the wad on Mahomes lose good players till the cap gets higher. Better hope the Chiefs can draft some good cheap talent.

Mahomes agent is Leigh Steinberg

In December 2011, it was reported that a bench warrant had been issued against Steinberg after he failed to appear at a scheduled hearing, concerning an unpaid judgement of $1.4 million, by far the largest of several debts he owes;[19] in fact the bench warrant was authorized by a judge but never issued.[18][20] On January 11, 2012 Steinberg filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy protection.

Everything will be fine!

1. Drinking visibly during the parade and ceremonies.
2. Cursing on stage on mic during ceremonies.
3. Grabbing crotch & holding on, on stage during ceremonies.

Admittedly I do most those things BUT in the proper setting. Did no one coach celebratory conduct here?

As sports heroes that everyone including children look to as the best of the best, this type of conduct sets a bad example to impressionable youth.

They should know by now bad conduct can kill endorsements. We have all seen stupid shits lose multi million dollar endorsements because of their conduct off the field.

I know we can explain this away as in the moment and I agree to some extent.

To want someone to die though is very petty, oh sorry judged you again.

It is way more impressive and endearing to stay decent, gracious, humble and in control, that takes real strength of character.

No problem celebrating in the proper place at the proper time. Should however be measured in the public eye.
