Kansas City Bookstore Come Back

Maybe the most hopeful story of the week offers evidence that locals continue to read both online and in the real world OUTSIDE OF MAINSTREAM MEDIA DIRECTION and, thankfully, more and more INDEPENDENTLY. . . Checkit:

The Surprising Rise of Local Bookshops Creates New Communities - KC STUDIO

It's a sunny Saturday afternoon after the holidays, and a dozen people are browsing the shelves of Kansas City's newest bookstore. Called Wise Blood, after the Flannery O'Connor novel, the cozy Westport shop is an offshoot of the Mills Record Company, a vinyl-friendly retail institution around the corner on Broadway.

  8. If anyone doubts bookstores can make it in the modern world, I'd suggest a trip to any of the Half Price Book stores--especially when they have a sale.

On the other hand, maybe it would be better if most TKC posters stay out of polite society. BTW, thanks again, Tony, for giving these losers something to keep them occupied!

  9. Mixing some sort of cafe/coffee shop with a lot of books sounds like a winning combo to me, but it does require more square footage. -Einstein

  12. einstein if they can line up paid events like speakers and even artists, maybe they can make it. hope so. I'll have to check it out soon

Prospero's is pretty great, only a small mention, but that's ok the feature was on the new place. I got a huge art book of the hermitage collection there for twelve bucks, like a monster size coffee table book with beautiful color plates.

but the name of the shop, even if a great book, that's a bad name for a shop isn't it? thx, radish

  13. Republicans don't read books, they only watch Fox. That is why they're so fucking ignorant.

  14. ^^^ Understanding the world completely leads one to become more conservative as they mature. Sadly something you are still working on.

  15. ^^^ Understanding the world huh? Like recognizing Fascist/Authoritarian governments? People not in the cult can see parallels from the past to the current Fascist. The cult only knows what Fox tells them. Those same ignoramuses are conservatives.

  16. CNN = Clinton News Network

Hillary had a special server, deleted tens of thousands of emails, and physically destroyed phones and laptops after a subpoena. Then she's not punished for anything. What a joke.

    ReplyDelete
  17. ^^^^And yet Hillary is not in any public office and has nothing to do with this thread. Weird.

  18. ^^^^And Jeffrey Epstein didn’t kill himself. Weird.

  19. ^^^^ Epstein was killed by Trump's DOJ. Epstein's murder goes all the way to Trump.
