Proposed Kansas City, Missouri, Budget Does Not Include Full Funding For Free Buses

Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas is set to release his proposed budget Thursday, and it's roughly $3 million short of what transportation officials say they need to get rid of bus fares. Kansas City, Missouri, got national attention last year when the city council pledged to find the money to go fare-free.

  4. a democrat promised a bunch of free stuff, only to find out that when it came time to implement it, it cost a lot of money and wasn't realistic, and couldn't get it done? I'm sure that won't happen with free college for everyone, green new deal, and medicaire for all though. smh.

  5. Here's an idea - Don't promise FREE giveaways when we don't have the money to do it. Democrats always promise free stuff to gullible voters and act like there's an endless pool of taxpayer dollars.

    1. Is it better to promise that Mexico is going to pay for a stupid wall and then ram it down taxpayers throats? Or maybe add a trillion to the deficit with tax giveaways for the wealthy...

After claiming that it cost more to collect bus fares than the fees amounted to, Mayor "Selfie Q" is promoting an unnecessary Fire Department sales tax, an unnecessary taxpayer-subsidized downtown baseball stadium, and yet another taxpayer-subsidized parking garage for a luxury housing tower!!!

  8. All I see are huge buses running around empty. Change the fare to free and the homeless will start to ride. It worked for the streetcar.

  9. Just raise the water bills enough to cover the bus fares, they're already so high no one would even notice.

  10. with no money coming in who will pay to repair and replace worn out buses? OH, you didn't think about that !

  11. The buses are a $100 million a year endeavor. Fares bring in some $7.5 million. What happens if some of the other $90+ million ceases to exist? The feds might cut funding. The state might cut funding. And the buses do ride around empty most of the time. Provide a better service, not a "free" service.

  12. I call this failure...And the buses do ride around empty most of the time.

  13. The concept of a free bus ride is dumb as fuck, the city owns the busses and blows out bus tires because they cant seem to fix the fucking pot holes... Mayor Dumbocrate Q you are on stage in this city now!! Better get those potholes fixed or you are a one term dumbocrate chump!!
