The court let T-Mobile buy Sprint because Sprint completely sucks
After a lengthy trial, a federal court ruled in favor of allowing T-Mobile and Sprint to merge yesterday, along with a complicated scheme to turn Dish Network into the fourth national wireless carrier over several years. The decision is not necessarily surprising: even though antitrust scrutiny of big tech platforms like Google and Facebook is heating up, giant telecom mergers are still sailing through.

Spring cannot cease to exist soon enough. The cellular provider doesn't even get good service in Kansas City, its corporate headquarters. And one wonders why it went out of business?
ReplyDeleteDidn't the mayor say no jobs will be lost because of the merger, and that it will be good for Overland Park?
ReplyDeleteThey will make the Company more leaner .And yes there will be Layoffs. And the Ones with the Top Salaries Will Go. They already have to many CHIEF'S. They will keep most of the Sales and Marketing people .Nothing happens until a sale is made. And they will need a great Cash Flow.
ReplyDeleteAfter an acquistion such as this, things remain pretty calm on the surface for about a year. Then, after that, all bets are off and many of Sprint's units that are redundant with the T-Mobile facilities go bye-bye.
ReplyDeleteIt's a urban myth that Sprint signal strength on the Sprint campus was not good and calls would drop. The only people perpetuating that myth are those who are still smarting from getting let go by Sprint and people who work at AT&T and Verizon, the smug duopolists of wireless and the employers of more lobbyists than about any other company in the U.S.

ReplyDeleteAs in many companies, most of the leaders chosen were those who talked a good game and sucked up to the top brass, and that was about all they could do. Brilliance in thought and strategy was scarce. This is the best outcome that could have come to Sprint. The alternative would have probably been to either become a regional carrier or limp into bankruptcy.
