TKC TOLD YOU SO!!! KCFD SALES TAX INCREASE VOTE COMING SOON!!!

Our KICK-ASS TKC blog community put this on blast Saturday whilst other local "journalists" were covering cake decorated like Patrick Mahomes' hairdo.

Anyhoo, here's the public meeting fair use follow-up from behind a paywall . . .

"The KCFD wants to add another quarter-cent tax, yielding another $21 million a year for 15 years to help with major upgrades.

"According to a presentation by Kansas City Fire Chief Donna Maize, the department needs nearly $80 million for immediate and long-term facility upgrades, equipment and new trucks, pumpers and ambulances.

"The Finance, Governance and Public Safety Committee voted unanimously Wednesday to approve the legislation. The full City Council must act Thursday in order to meet a Jan. 28 deadline for issues appearing on the April ballot."

However, our blog community watched the same meeting and came away with a better perspective . . .

CITY HALL OFFERS FEW DEETS ON HOW THE NEW SALES TAX WILL BE SPENT IN KANSAS CITY NEIGHBORHOODS!!!

As usual, the paper doesn't press politicos for real info but simply reports talking points.

Here's better journalism from our readers:

"This was one of the lamest presentations EVAR.

"No discussion of total amount collected, how much per year diverted or how much per area to be spent.

"Example: Capital improvement- Fire/ambulance, salary subsidy, current revenue/expenditure allocation vs future revenue allocation.

"Will this reduce uncontrolled Fire Department overtime?

"Do some fire stations need to be closed?

"For the 21st century should fire or emergency ambulance service be the primary focus?

"We are not building large wooden structures. All commercial buildings are required to have sprinklers. They put more miles on pumper trucks going to Price Chopper than to fires . . . Maybe the Finance Committee needs to analyze how a tax increase should be spent BEFORE it is placed on the ballot."

The upshot . . .

THIS IS ANOTHER KANSAS CITY BLANK CHECK AT A TIME WHEN TAXES ARE SKY HIGH & THE COST OF LIVING IS FORCING RESIDENTS OUT OF THEIR HOMES!!!

Developing . . .

  1. Most of what 12th & Oak does is a blank check. That's why living outside of city limits still presents a savings and much better schools.

    1. ^^^ True. That's why most FD & PD live as far away from the central city as possible. Soon they won't even have to be inside city limits.

  2. This is another bad tax increase that is needed to cover all the other bad spending at City Hall. Why do you think this lady was made Fire Chief? This is all a part of her payback now for being made Chief. She is to make the public think she is needing all this money so the money collected allows the city to raid the Fire Dept funds for operating cash.

    VOTE NO

  3. Well... I can attest that they at least need new ambulances. Called 911 for my fathers heart condition and KC Fire showed up in this ambulance that was smoking and leaked probably two quarts of oil on my fathers driveway. I even asked them if the thing was going to make it to the hospital. It did thankfully, but they do need better ambulances.

  4. WTF? KC has money for music videos but not their FD? Looks like bad priorities and not lack of funds.

  5. Upgrades? I call BS. Most of the money, as it has already,
will go to even more ginned up, questionable overtime.

  6. No way will I vote for another penny of taxes for anything...you idiots think we are rubes but I tell you this ain’t gonna fly.

  7. We can expect the same arguements from city hall and KCFD

    Vote Yes OR Die!

No conversation tolerated about all of the giveaways to corporations.

Why doesn't Waddell & Reed pick up the tab for ambulance repairs?

  8. Meanwhile back at the ranch....

The entire fleet of city vehicles is well over 13 years old and wore out but hey, let’s keep things perfectly up to date for the fire dept, you know, so they look good at a fire or car crash, they cant be seen in anything more than three years old because, what would the surrounding fire depts think, if they saw them in three year old vehicles, oh the humanity!

  13. All aboard for the FREE ride toy trains, no fare bus lines, and big traffic boondoggler bike lanes in Killa Shitty--the 5th most homicidal hellhole, where taxpayers are increasingly schemed and reamed, where the public schools are underperforming and hardly accredited prison pipelines, where potholed roads are plentiful, where weekly trash services are terrible, and THE SUPER BOWL BOUND CHIEFS WILL WIPE AWAY ALL THE AFOREMENTIONED CRAP....RIGHT, Kcrumbling--Kcorrupt--Kcowtown??!!

  14. Remember, that 1% of your income they take? That is supposed to pay for public safety.

  15. To me, the issue is that this is a BAIT AND SWITCH. Which is illegal. And when the council knows, in advance, that they have secretly pledged to move the money elsewhere, that is FRAUD. Until council members stand up and pledge that all tax revenues be spent within that budget category, the citizens are being defrauded.

Line item budgets need to be part of any new elections for tax increases or expenses. With some sort of absolute audited penalty for non-compliance--as in the tax gets rebated back to the voters.

Does Mo. have a Missouri Open Meetings Act, like Ks and KOMA? This council is desperate. And has fallen in love with its captors--the admin. It's called the Stockholm Syndrome. They will lie to your face--that is how broke the city is.

  16. The blank check is the public safety sales tax that goes to KCPD. that should NOT be renewed! They made too many promises that they did not keep.
