TKC MUST READ!!! KCPD CHIEF SHARES NEW PLAN TO FIGHT KANSAS CITY HOMICIDE & GUNFIRE CRISIS!!!

Today the KCPD Chief offers local residents a lot more detail and numbers regarding recent changes to KCPD and the 2020 response to rising, deadly Kansas City crime.

Here's the word:

KCPD Chief's Blog: We're making changes to address homicides and non-fatal shootings

The premise . . .

"While so much of our other crime is trending downward, shootings and homicides remain a persistent issue in our city. Although police are by no means solely responsible for the increase or decrease in these crimes, we are obligated to do everything in our power to address them and bring offenders to justice.

"We also know we can’t work in a vacuum. It takes partnerships across the city and an evaluation of best practices nationwide to make the systemic changes needed to impact our stubborn violent crime rate. In 2019, Kansas City had 148 homicides and 491 non-fatal shootings."

Changes include:

A focus on prolific violent offenders

"KC NoVA switched its enforcement strategy last year from targeting group-related violence to targeting individuals who are frequently involved in violent, gun-related crimes."

Reviewing non-fatal shootings

"As of January 8, we are now conducting weekly shooting review meetings. These cover all homicides and non-fatal shootings that took place in the past week and follow up on case progress from previous weeks."

Adding investigative resources

"With 491 non-fatal shootings last year (a 9% increase from 2018), we have doubled the number of detectives in our Assault Squads from 12 to 24. They are charged with investigating cases in which someone is assaulted with a weapon but survives.

"We also have added eight homicide detectives, bringing the total number to 32.

"These shifts have led to us moving resources from other places, like Mounted Patrol. That decision wasn’t popular, but it is needed to focus resources on stopping the perpetrators of gun violence in our city."

And so, given that the local homicide count is pretty much trending consistently with where it has been over the past five years . . .

WILL KCPD CHANGES & THE NEW PLAN HELP CURB KILLING IN KANSAS CITY?!?

If not, what will???

You decide . . .

Comments

  1. This is a start but it's directed toward the most violent and dangerous perpetrators in Kansas City. I understand the need for urgency but consider this: It's the violence that reaches into middle-class neighborhoods and entertainment districts that really sets communities on edge. That crime often starts out petty but gets serious very quickly. Some might want to focus on that as in the new year.

    2. That's the answer that most people give but it probably goes deeper than that. I think we're talking about buy in from communities and help for police with witnesses coming forward. If that's going to happen then funding from the state level for witness protection is a must.

Total bullshit. They lie about the murders and holy shit do they lie about assaults, robberies and rapes.

This city is no different than any other Democrat City, like New York, Baltimore and St. Louis, the fix is in. You are NOT getting accurate reports and crime is every bit as bad, or worse than it has ever been.

  9. The cops can arrest all the criminals they want, but it won’t matter. Jean Petersucker Baker and the liberal fag judges let them go faster than the cops arrest them.

  10. We are headed in the same direction as other liberal cities run by pie in the sky liberals. Pretty soon, bank robbers won't have to post bail, rapists will be released on their own recognizance and theft of under $950.00 will not be prosecuted.

But sure, crime is going down.

  11. The rule of law is under attack by liberals, because many liberals are criminals.

  13. Our non-fatal shootings are a problem in Kansas City. With better accuracy, our murder totals would be higher.

  14. In Virginia they are passing laws to take guns away from white people. That is probably the Mayor's next big move.

  21. 3:40pm brings up a really good idea that has certainly been shown to be effective. And that is enforcing laws against less serious crimes to had off bigger problems in the future.
That's called the broken window theory of enforcement.
Then follow up with stop and frisk and confiscation of illegal firearms.
    Focus in the urban core.
The "latest" proposal from KCPD must be about the fifteenth "new program" rolled out in the last two years.
And fund anything new by shutting down all the nonprofit "programs" that haven't had any impact for decades and DEFUND THEM.
There'd be millions available to try new efforts that might actually have a chance to work.

  22. The violence in this city is horrible. Children are being shot, homes are being fired into with absolutely no regard as to who may be inside, people shot, stabbed, bludgeoned, etc. for no reason at all. I could go on but everyone already knows this stuff. We have to do something to get a handle on it. Maybe one or more of these initiatives will have an impact. BUT...until the public starts working with police, actual community leaders, and with one another nothing will change. Prosecutors need to prosecute and not look for every reason under the sun to throw cases out and let these scumbags back out on the streets. Judges need to impose sentences that mean something. And no, not everyone deserves a second chance, they just need to go to jail.
