TKC EXCLUSIVE!!! KANSAS CITY CYCLING ADVOCATES DEMAND BIKE PLAN FUNDING OVER FIGHT AGAINST VIOLENT CRIME!!!

A small special interest contingent of cycling advocates and amateur urban planners are once again displaying remarkably callous attitudes in support of their hobby above far more pressing issues confronting Kansas City.

To wit . . .

SOME SELFISH KANSAS CITY CYCLISTS SEEMINGLY ARGUE THAT THE BIKE KC MASTER PLAN TRUMPS CONCERN FOR VICTIMS OF VIOLENT CRIME!!!

Today's example . . .

A write-up documenting social media bullying targeting Council Lady Teresa Loar exemplifies a recent bit of "woke" virtue signaling.

Remember, while we don't agree with her on every issue, Council Lady Loar has consistently proven to be the voice of reason when expressing skepticism about NEW KCI. Behind the scenes, her skill was also demonstrated in securing permits and access for important initiatives like the KC Veterans Project.

She's also no fan of bike lanes given consistently negative feedback for the transit scheme in the Northland . . .

Accordingly, this headline deserves more context . . .

Kansas City Councilwoman Loar Under Fire Over Comment On Bike Plan After Cyclist's Death

Money line:

“We’ve got huge issues in front of us, and I’m very, very sorry and very troubled by the death of the gentleman on the bicycle and certainly don’t want to see that repeated, but unfortunately people die in this city every day and we just have to make sure that we’re keeping everything in perspective,” she told the newspaper.

The remarks, published Saturday, generated backlash from advocates on social media. Some called for her removal as chair of the Transportation, Infrastructure and Operations Committee.

Shawn Tolivar, with KC 4 Safe Streets, said the comments were disheartening.

“We should not be writing off anybody’s life in this city,” Tolivar said.

BUT WRITING PEOPLE OFF IS EXACTLY WHAT CYCLING ADVOCATES ARE DOING WHEN THEY PUSH THEIR PRICEY $400-MILLION PLAN AND IGNORE THE COUNCIL LADY'S CLEAR REFERENCE TO THE TRAGIC KANSAS CITY MURDER RATE!!!

More to the point, TKC has spoken with the Council Lady many times about funding priorities and she has ALWAYS noted that money to put more cops on KCMO streets has always been one of her goals.

WHEN COUNCIL LADY LOAR TALKS ABOUT 'PERSPECTIVE' SHE'S MAKING A VALUE JUDGEMENT: KC'S MURDER PROBLEM DEMANDS MORE ATTENTION THAN THE UNPROVEN BIKE PLAN!!!

TKC challenges anyone to claim otherwise.

And so, we can't help but notice the coincidence that recent advocacy for dead cyclists follows last year's SHUT DOWN of the bike plan that was led by Council Loar and supported by the majority of her colleagues.

Nobody wants cyclists to suffer injury but KCMO doesn't have infinite resources and there is no evidence that $400-MILLION for bike lanes & other motorist crackdowns will save lives.

One more quick point of order . . .

SHAME ON KANSAS CITY BIKE/WALK ADVOCATES FOR USING PEDESTRIAN DEATHS TO CHAMPION THEIR POLITICAL CAUSE AS THEY BRAZENLY HIJACK TACTICS OF ANTI-CRIME ADVOCATES!!!

Real talk . . .

Riding a bike doesn't make someone a social justice warrior. We notice that so many cyclists are nothing more than hypocrites who mount $2,000 bikes on luxury SUVS and act like they're doing the world a favor by going on a weekend jaunt in those silly "banana hammock" shorts that look uncomfortable.

More than anything it's important to see this bit of online bullying for what it is . . .

BIKE/WALK KC AND THEIR SUPPORTERS WANT HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS FOR SKETCHY LANES, CONSULTING CONTRACTS AND JOB FUNDING AND THEY'RE WILLING TO RIDE THE CORPSE OF EVERY DEAD CYCLIST IN ORDER TO GET THAT MONEY!!!

Their group has very little support from the urban core outside of a few token employees. Bike lanes don't rank high on the list of improvements that neighborhoods demand.

And more importantly . . .

Again, $400-MILLION for bike lanes might not prevent tragic accidents, crashes and so many other risks that confront every mode of transit.

However, that cash could be used to hire more police rather than stuff the pockets of another special interest group using the politics of victimization as a rhetorical trick on the voting public.

You decide . . .

  1. The bike plan died in 2019 and it should stay dead. They also need to go back and fix Armour Road for real.

    1. I see bike lanes in a lot of places but don't see that many people using them. And so far it hasn't snowed, even fewer people will used them in that case.

    2. See it for what it is: An old Sly tactic. Scare people with a Facebook group and hope that they give in to your demands. There are three groups doing this already in KC and two of them use the same political consultant. The only people who fall for it are reporters on deadline.

    1. ^^^ Share the road idiot. Bikes have just as much right to be there as cars. And people also need to give pedestrians more than 2 seconds to cross the street, this town is too car obsessed.

    2. Have the bike riders pay personal property taxes on the bikes they run red lights with. Ignore traffic signals. Oh, and bike insurance with full coverage. Then, I will give you douchebags some respect.

  3. The guy was riding like an idiot, daring a car to hit him, and gee wiz what do you know it did. Don't like the results ride in a safe manner and quit challenging larger vehicles. And quit stomping your feet and holding your collective breath in stupid temper tantrums.

  4. Do these jackoffs realize that we want our streets and potholes fixed before we do something as stupid and un-needed as bike lanes?

Typical dimwit thinking, spend hundreds of millions of dollars on new bike lanes when the streets are completely destroyed and nearly U.N. usable. Idiots.

  5. 400 million dollars? Just buy everyone a Peloton bike. Streets would be much safer then.

  6. Bikes and the toy train, these people need to grow up. The majority are fed up paying for all this stupidity.

  7. 6:59 go to Frisco, where not only can you ride your bike year around, the liberal politicians have set up an obstacle course for you to enjoy on your way to DNC Headquarters. Piles of shit, needles, homeless drug addicts, drunks pissing against the thieves running away retail stores with $949.00 worth of goods and broken glass everywhere from the cars and stores with broken windows. Talk about a challenge!!! The best part? No cops to give you any trouble about speeding down those big hills. The worst part? The taxes on your bike purchase will be twice the price of the bike..., cause..., you know..., we gotta provide needles and safe spaces for all of those Democrat voting drug addicts.

    Party on Garth!!!

So what they’re saying is since the city gives millions of dollars to do nothing crime programs they want their fair share of free money, sounds reasonable when it’s put in this context.

And what does “concern for victims of violent crime mean”? Are the victims getting free money too? Asking for a crime victim friend of mine.

  11. @ 6:59 - Get real! You are the idiot if you ride you tricycle on SW Traffic way or any other major street. You do not, NOT, have the right to impede traffic and create, CREATE, problems. One dead cyclist does not equate to 149 murders that need solving and preventing in this city. And $400 million for a group that doesn't pay taxes on their mode of transportation does not deserve anything special.

  12. Jesus this town has a small mindedness that, along with the rampant crime, will continue to hold it back. Those of you bitching about bike lanes, when was the last time you rode a bike...or got any exercise at all for that matter? The Carter administration?

Hopefully people will see this group for what they are.
They are a foot stomping, scamming, name calling, bullying and race baiting special interest group trying to extract as much money from the taxpayer anyway they can.
They ensure anybody who disagrees with them and their narrative will feel the wrath of Bike/WalkKC.
Nice touch, Tony, of having bicycles in your captcha.

The gentleman who died at SW Trafficway and Valentine was riding without lights on his bike at 11:30 PM.
Basic road maintenance is the issue here. A bike lane may or may have not saved this person. Poor street lighting wold also help the situation.

  16. $400 mil for bike lanes, and yet people complain about free bus rides. Weird.

  17. Wasn't the cyclist who died violating traffic laws and it was 100 percent his fault? It seems like we need to introducing licensing for cyclists since they are at a huge risk to themselves.

We have fatal car on car accidents on a weekly basis in KC minimizing those should take precedence.

  21. Listen up, Bike Nazis. I’m as liberal as liberal can be. Your god-damned crusade for bike lanes is a farce. When you ride, many of you refuse to obey traffic law. You believe the road was built for you but it was not. Nope. It was built for automobiles ... and your idiotic selfishness steals money needed for road resurfacing. KCMO needs replaced asphalt and not a fucking painted bike lane.

    ReplyDelete
  22. As long as KCMO residents insist on continuing to elect people to city government just because they're "nice people" or "popular", but who have no appreciation, understanding, or even interest in what a municipal government actually does (services like public safety and decent streets), they'll continue to get empty vessels who are easily stampeded by one special interest group or another.
The electeds have nothing else going, so why not spend millions on art festivals, bike lanes, dog pounds, street re-namings, and pretty much anything else that walks through the door?
Especially if the group, however small, is loud and intimidating.
What a way to run anything!
    Sad.

  24. It is about rights of the minority.....that being someone on a bicycle.
Just because there are way more cars doesn't mean that bicycle shouldn't have a safe place to ride.

SOME busy streets need a bike lane. There is often no other way to get from point A to point B.

If there isn't a bike lane then you will see me riding in the MIDDLE of the fucking street at 10 mph holding up you fat fucks, until i can find a sidewalk.

A bike lane here and there is a benefit to motorists. Think about it.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I see Bike KC has still failed to admit that this rider in question who is getting all this attention and being used to push for safer roads for bike riders was a rider who was ignoring the existing laws for the flow of all traffic, cars and bikes alike, which resulted in him being in the accident which later was the cause of his death.

Time for Bke KC to admit a lot of the issue with safety rests with there own supporters and bike riders. It's interesting that a motorcycle has to follow the same rules as another other vehicles on the road plus have a well visible light front and rear on at all times day or night with the driver having a windshield or eye protection on at all times on the Kansas side of the line. If bike riders want equal use then they need to obey the laws, have insurance to cover any accident they are involved in and to be required to have the same safety precautions and requirements that a motorcycle does for that state.

To be honest I am very surprised the insurance companies have not lobbied on the insurance thing since it'd be another mandatory cash cow law for them.

  26. The Bike KC Master Plan advocates nailed the final nail in the coffin with the hostile comments directed to Teresa Loar. Teresa is the chair of the committee and she is well versed on politics. And no one hold a grudge like Teresa. With the support of Loar the plan didn't have a snow ball's chance in hell; but now...

  27. With friends like these who needs enemies. I don't think the bike advocates understand the harm they are doing to the career of their biggest advocate, Eric Bunch.

  28. Either REMOVE those damn bike lanes from Armour Blvd or put up NO LEFT TURN at every intersection brom Broadway to Troost; YOU CANT HAVE IT BOTH WAYS!!!!!

  29. Bike KC sucks. They need to go back to California.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Fuck bikes.
Drive a car you sissy fuckers.

    ReplyDelete
  31. "Bickers" certainly have just as much right to use the road as cars, but right doesn't equal propriety - just like you have a right to drive the minimum speed of 45 mph on the interstate does not mean that it is wise to do so. The roads are not designed to accommodate both, and with cars being the dominant form of transportation, bike usage is very risky to both the cyclist and the driver.

I'm not opposed to bike lanes, in fact, I think they are a prerequisite to bike usage. That being said, I don't think KC (with its low density, hills and intemperate climate) conduces to cycling as stand in for auto usage. It comes down to prudent use of the public treasury prudently in a community that has a long exercised imprudence in doing so.

  32. Hey 1/7/20, 12:09 PM (Slowthefuckdown), driving on public streets is a PRIVILEGE and not a right. Obey existing traffic laws, install a headlight/taillight, use hand signals, stay the fuck in the right-hand lane at all times or get off the damned road!

Try being a whiny bitch and ride in the middle of the street, Mr. Spandex. I'll simply nudge you right into oncoming traffic.

  33. We need a bike lane right down Prospect. Let the hood rats take target practice on the bike riders. Have the cops arrest the hood rats. Then Jean Petersucker Baker lets them go.

  36. 4pm the truth of what you say is to tell people succinct list of a plan, for example, that prospect, holmes, & Broadway will be made major N/S bike lanes, avoid them if you are in a car and hate bikes.
Not every street is best for cars AND not every road and intersection can be made ideal for bikes. the bike lanes you do make can be a clear continuous designated through ways, not snippets everywhere that go nowhere then disappear. trying to sell that loop/s has been your best effort.
You have recreational bikers and commuter bikes. City says they put in 100s of miles of bike lanes, who gives a fuck! it is four miles from downtown to the plaza. Broadway. that is an overlap between commuters and recreational bikes users. a bike lane down prospect is where they do not overlap.

  37. I drive Barry Road between No Troost and No Oak several times a day. Never ever have I seen anyone using the bike lane on the south side of Barry Road. It's the most insane traffic direction Imhave ever experienced. The roads were made for vehicles and not the occasional bicycle. This is somnutty.

  38. Have rode a bicycle for years recreationally all over the city. There is always a way to get there using side streets. Sure it may not be as direct as the main drags, but I manage to get anywhere using 25 mph side streets. Years ago crossing the river was nearly impossible but there is now a nice safe lane across the Heart of America. To ride on any street with a speed limit over 35 mph is asking for trouble IMO.

  43. I applaud Councilwoman Loar and her statement makes me like and support her even more. There are harsh realities in this City and this world. The truth is that nearly anything can happen to cause death to someone. I understand the passion that bikers have but they also need to be safe to avoid injury and death. When they ignore that and blame everything and everybody else for their own actions - at some point the public must reach the same conclusion that Loar did. The deceased fellow should be used to show how not to behave in heavy traffic or traffic generally, given that bikers are out-gunned (figuratively) and there is not ever going to be a space where bicycles and automobile traffic should co-exist; and it’s simply unsafe to do so - whether there are bike lanes or not. This is a automobile oriented City; bikes are a hobby for most and a pass time for others. Biking just isn’t a big priority amid all of the other pressing things in this City. That’s the harsh reality. The best thing for bikers is to behave if they’re planning to integrate into traffic.

    ReplyDelete
  44. This is all bullshit. Have you seen this group of weirdos? The roads are for cars for people with jobs to generate income and taxes to pay for the roads and infrastructure. So much demand for so few.

THE AMOUNT OF ANY TAXES PAID BY THESE FEW CYCLIST IS DISPROPORTIONAL TO THE COST AND DISRUPTION OF BIKE LANES ON MAJOR THOROUGHFARES!
