TKC BREAKING NEWS!!! KANSAS CITY 'SAVE MLK BLVD' MOVEMENT LAUNCHES ON NATIONAL HOLIDAY CELEBRATING LEGACY OF CIVIL RIGHTS ICON!!!

Backed by some of Kansas City's top ranking political leaders, a few members of the urban core clergy refuse to surrender their goal of transforming The Paseo into MLK Blvd despite the will of voters.

To wit . . .

THE FIGHT TO KEEP KANSAS CITY CONTROVERSIAL STREET SIGNS INTACT STARTS AGAIN ON MLK DAY!!!

Some of our smarter readers are already aware of this move and we talked about it last month. No, the signs have yet to come down and the lame excuses about waiting till the Spring and public forums mostly serve as a distraction for gullible newsies.

Sure the City Council vote was overridden by a citizen initiative petition that won TREMENDOUS CITYWIDE SUPPORT from both the urban core and Northland along with garnering nationwide headlines.

However . . .

Go ask Clay Chastain about City Hall keeping promises after the outcome of petition efforts.

A decade after his victory at the ballot, he's still waiting on gondolas floating in the sky above Downtown and light rail to the airport which voters agreed to establish via one of his petitions.

And let's forgo a tense discussion about the CITYWIDE VOTE DEMANDING VOTER PARTICIPATION IN THE STREETCAR'S FUTURE. That ballot initiative was shredded on arrival.

And here's where things get really down & dirty . . .

Protesters who created a disturbance inside a church have been tagged as worse than the Klan by top ranking KC politicos and that sentiment has garnered support on the council. The political faux pas has evoked a very real negative consequence for the goals of "Save The Paseo" as City Hall seems more than willing to basically rip up the petition of these alleged haters.

Both City Hall and some Democratic Party supporters are more than willing to fund a court fight that could take years . . .

Or even worse, the haphazard petition could reinstate The Paseo for just a few blocks.

We noted previously, KC hosts many two name streets in much the same way that Broadway Blvd turns into J.C. Nichols Parkway for a bit.

And so given that KCMO and the entire nation seems to be as politically fractured as the West Bank, all of this debate might be over a small swath of land as The Paseo renewed over a few blocks instead of 9 miles would TECHNICALLY satisfy the sloppy petition and also serve as a slap in the face against protesters who arrogantly wasted their political capital by way of a nasty and universally denounced church protest.

This situation is still in flux but here's what we know for certain:

THE MLK BLVD DEBATE IS NOT OVER IN KANSAS CITY!!!

In conclusion, the street fight clearly demonstrates that the local MLK legacy has been irrevocably damaged by divisive seemingly endless arguments by groups who demand to mark their territory above any consideration related to history or civil rights. Future generations might one day examine how this episode in local history has worsened race relations and torn apart communities rather than served to unite Kansas City.

Developing . . .

  1. The petition is clear but I don't doubt they'll try to lawyer out of it. I think Save The Paseo would find lots of funding and support if a court battle was to start. The voters have spoken!

Also, are there any sources on this story because I didn't see any?

January twentieth will be James Earl Ray day in my neighborhood. My neighborhood doesn't have murders, crack-whores, or attacks by roving packs of dogs. No trannies, faggots, or dykes either. Mobs of Black "teens" don't create chaos and destroy places of business. These realities exist because White Christians a running the show. Enjoy your rainbow, KCMO !

  6. and yet your neighborhood isn't really a neighborhood at all, rather it's a trailer park. You don't even own the shitty trailer you squat in either. Your neighbors are in-bred, redneck, cousin-fuckin', dummies who populate said trailer park. You all exist by stealing copper and collecting aluminum cans to feed your meth habits. You're all hooked on Oxy and have 3 to 5 raging STD's at any given time. There. Fixed it for you. Weird.

  7. The people have spoken. Their votes should count!

This whole post is a mishmash of previous articles unrelated to the "breaking" news, which appears to be nothing more than a rumor. A made up story to generate anger and clicks. Sad.

  15. E. Clever and his east side crooked ministers were the instigators of the the original City resolution. Weak and small minded council members caved in to Clever and Reed. Clever will now not give up on this just like James did not give up on the Street Car expansion after the city voted to stop the funding. It is time to defeat Clever at ballot box.

  18. 11:20 I recently spoke to a neighborhood activist who’s in every bodies business and he said they want the cleave gone and mlk ain’t over with, he is pushing for mlk airport, I reminded him that Atlanta has that already and he said and I quote “they do?” I also asked him why do we have to pay and how much will it cost us to use his name and he said it doesn’t matter, it’s worth a million dollars a year to the blacks so they can have something inspirational. I’m sure he doesn’t mean we’ll be paying that much but Jesus Christ they really don’t care how much it cost.

    ReplyDelete
  19. 0-3 on changing a street to mlk and the only people pushing this is the cleave and the fat fake revs and their little buddies, if this was so important to the black community then why have they voted it down 3 times since 1978?

    1978- Prospect Ave = NO
    2011- Prospect Ave = NO
    2019- Paseo Blvd = NO

There seems to be a pattern after streets that begin with a P.

    ReplyDelete
  20. With 2019 close to a record homicides, the vast majority of which occur in "the urban core", you'd think maybe that the revs would have something more beneficial to "the community" than to try to overturn a very decisive election in which the majority of residents in KCMO decided that the Paseo should stay as it has been.
Praise God and pass the ammunition!

    ReplyDelete
  21. @ 11:36 - So you're just now after 60 years of this crap realize that the minorities never spend their own money, they spend your money. They don't have money because of gold chains, crack, cannabis, Meth, oxy, heroin, Colt 45's and guns (Oh, and Cadillac's). The thing they lack most is a good education because they don't go to school but listen to Rap music(?). You can't make them go to school!
They want to honor MLKjr who was a womanizer worse than Weinstein, Clinton and Trump combined. But don't let the facts get in the way. In every top 50 city in the US with a street named MLK it is the heart of the poverty and crime area, great motivation.
The KCMO City Council acts like the dems in congress that don't want the facts when they can make up the lies much easier.
What do you expect when you elect a MOC (Mayor of Color).

  22. Emperor Tony has no clothes. Despite the many updates insisting there is a Save the MLK Blvd movement, he hasn't one iota of evidence to support his claims. This is just click bait pot-stirring.

It really is too bad, that the Progressives who read this blog, NEVAR have anything useful to add to the conversation and only engage in ad hominem attacks. Other points of view are important and the paucity of any reasonable counter arguments that don't appeal to emotion from a supposed "High Ground" is certainly lacking.

  35. I believe that the dual street solution is the best way to go. The petition did not specify that the signs needed to be replaced over 9 miles, simply that the Paseo was to be reestablished. I don't think the Northeast neighbors really care about pushing their signs deep into the east side, this is just a fight not over the paseo on Independence Avenue. Therein lies the Compromise. Put the Paseo back on Independence Avenue and the petition has been honored. And maybe we can all get on with our lives.

Somebody please run against this asshat and take his spot away from him, please, I’m begging you.

  48. If co-opting the name of a street is viewed as a black victory, that's sad. It means victorious conquered context worthy of a flag stake to some , and merely a logistical, financial pain in the ass to others, but define it as your 1 sided war on whitey dictates. If black folks want compensation for slavery, all the families of dead Union soldiers want a liberation fee.
