TKC BREAKING NEWS!!! ANIMAL CONTROL PRIVATIZATION LEAVES AGGRESSIVE PETS ON KANSAS CITY STREETS!!!

Right now we've got FIRST WORD ON THE KANSAS CITY ANIMAL CONTROL CRISIS already underway.

Checkit:

CONCERNS GROW AS LIMITED KCMO ANIMAL CONTROL SERVICES ARE JEOPARDIZING PUBLIC SAFETY AND NOT HOLDING PET OWNERS ACCOUNTABLE FOR AGGRESSIVE PETS.

January 7, 2020 – Spay and Neuter Kansas City (SNKC) is asking Kansas City, Missouri (KCMO) tax payers to voice concerns to the KCMO city council over an animal welfare crisis in Kansas City.

“It’s become a real problem,” explained Michelle Rivera, SNKC founder and president. “Every day now there are dogs and cats lost and alone out on the streets.”

In June 2019, the KCMO city council voted to privatize animal control. The department now has only a small number of officers, which puts our community at serious risk and is leaving animals left to suffer. In fact, research into the 311 Action Center reveals nearly 250 calls have not been dispatched including 88 aggressive dog calls. A full report is attached.

The vote to privatize was held and approved by council despite special committee recommendations against it. With no interim plan, our community continues to be left with inadequate level of services to protect them as well as hold pet owners accountable for owned pets wandering the neighborhood. We also fear taxpayers - knowing there are limited animal control services - will simply stop calling altogether, which could lead to injured and sick pets left to needlessly suffer.

Numerous animal outreach groups are trying to help with some of the stray calls but are already overwhelmed with an increase in requests for help. “ This is our community, we live and work in it, and we care,” explained Rivera. “We care about the safety of our community, the pets in it and the owners who love them. Our clients are like family and are here to help them fight for what they deserve, which is adequate and effective animal control services.

“As an organization with 17 years of work in our community, we are asking KCMO taxpayers to contact city council and ask for their immediate attention to this matter,” continues Rivera. “Taxpayers and animals in our community deserve adequate services, which includes public safety, enforcement and sheltering of unwanted, stray and abandoned pets in our community.

  1. KC handled this one horribly and a lot of the workers still don't know where their jobs are going. The public safety aspect wasn't mentioned until long after the funding proposal was passed.

    1. ^^^ Name me one thing City Hall hasn't screwed up.

But the dangerous dog situation is an ongoing problem, it has been a danger in many neighborhoods for years.

    2. The decision was about fundraising not what's best for the majority of animals and or residents. I like that the new animals at the shelter have great homes and are getting good treatment but what most don't see is that so many more are left to fend for themselves on local streets.

  2. Spay and Neuter does great work. I know people there, they are dedicated to helping citizens and their pets and many, no shit, work for free rounding up feral cats and neutering them.

It is a great organization with great people.

  3. What the heck is wrong with KC? We can't take care of dogs, how are we going to effectively manage people?

  4. I love SNKC. They seem to be the only ones picking up the slack. Yeah, I'm glad the pit bulls at the new shelter are comfortable. But, since the takeover, there are more roaming dogs and I have yet to see an actual animal control truck picking them up. It is time to hold the city council responsible. The Pet Project failed to raise even half of their share and guess who gets to pay even more now. Taxpayers. We're still waiting on last years potholes to be fixed. Lots of pretty feathers in a old, crumbling hat.

  5. All must realize that beyond the real emotional response to the humane care of animals lies the rational and necessary realistic response to those animals that have been raised in a manner that reflects the bigger problem. Pit bulls or even a poodle that have been raised according to the same mentality that little david has been raised will always be dangerous. Stop it already with your objective BS. Ghetto folk raise dogs just like they raise their children-meaning fight and die whether right or wrong but survival of the Darwinist. This goes on in the newly indoctrinated rural ghettos of the areas that were once free of this monstrous ideology.

  6. This is still a legacy of that G.O. bond ripoff. Still paying for the old administration's debts. Thanks Sly!

  9. I have no problem with aggressive animals...I just wait for the right opportunity to put them out of their misery.

  10. 10:11 why would you let a dangerous dog situation to go on in your neighborhood for years? Just kill the dangerous animal. Don't let it threaten or hurt people.

  11. Our awesomely smart elected leaders completely forgot about the need for picking up and eliminating dangerous dogs..... real smart these clowns are.

  12. How does the council get to approve a proposal that was rejected? Doesn't seem like a fair process to begin with and now their quick decision ended in suffering of animals.

  13. 1% of every bit of income made in the city and you don't even get the most basic services. Keep on voting stupid Kansas City.

  14. THE USA spends billions on pets each year. That money could go to fix social security, the health insurance system or poverty and crime. But people will not step up and donate their money to make things better. Reminds me of old foolish France = "Let them eat cake" was the buzz phrase while the French were starving to death, and Marie's head was about to be chopped off, along with 100,000 other citizens.

Oh and by the way - your pet animal doesn't understand English - so stop talking to it. And it only stays with you cause you give it food. And your dog hates your perfume - but can't tell you that. But most importantly - pets have no souls -they don't live on after death - they are not made in the image of God and so they have no eternal live. God ordered the animal sacrifice of billions of animals over hundreds of years in the old Hebrew temple - really think those slaughtered animals are going to show up in heaven and ask people why they were killed? No animals have no souls. Get over it!
