Pricey Bike Lane Plan Disguised As 'Vision Zero' Makes Life Or Death Pitch To Council

Reader warning . . . This pitch from KCUR is just a plan for more bike lanes that haven't proven to keep anybody safe. Any council member who votes for it, hasn't really read it:

Kansas City Wants To Eliminate Traffic Deaths Even As Other Cities Struggle To Reach That Goal

The Kansas City Council this week will discuss an ambitious proposal to eliminate all traffic deaths by 2030. The measure, dubbed Vision Zero, was introduced following the death of a well-known Kansas City cyclist late last year.

  1. Don't run the light and hit the car bicyclist, a good start.

  3. First of all economies do not run on bicycles. Secondly the problem isn't fixable here in KCMO now that it's a rat race of mega herds racing into and around midtown and downtown trying to stay afloat financially and wasting money on amusement in entertainment districts. Thirdly everything Bunch and Rogers and their crew does has just makes things worse.

  4. Have the police actually do some policing and address the maniac drivers. Day in, day out people driving too fast, changing lanes too fast... running red lights, running stop signs. The bike walk advocates would benefit form a dose of reality and visit the hundreds of square miles of the city not between downtown and The Plaza. The city councilors north of the river don't have the same priorities due to the better planning of recent developments north of the river. Sad to say, but much of the city is a lost cause. No options to remake much of the city into a bike / pedestrian friendly environment.

  6. People will still die because they don’t follow the traffic rules. It’s that simple. This isn’t life-saving legislation, it’s a money laundering endeavor and should be stopped, questioned and set-aside permanently.
