Tivoli Cinemas reborn at the Nelson-Atkins - KC STUDIO
At a time when cities are overrun with franchise coffeehouses and froyo joints, cultural landmarks are to be cherished. But Kansas City almost lost one when Tivoli Cinemas closed last April. A refuge from superhero flicks, the Westport multiplex remained dedicated for decades to presenting indie and international films and had attracted a devoted following of discriminating moviegoers - who were alarmed at what seemed to be its demise.
Strange, I used to regularly go to Classic Films at the Nelson in the late Sixties and early Seventies, so its odd that the Nelson "has never done this before".

ReplyDeleteI'm going to miss Dave Smith the Lamp Maker. They were always really helpful and you could walk in with your lamp to fit shades. I remember when it was St Patrick's Day and he dyed his dog green and thought it would wash out fast and it didn't.
