KANSAS CITY STAR FAILS AS WINTER SNOWFALL ENDANGERS DRIVERS!!!

Call this a quickie snow mix update during yet another Winter of our discontent . . .

First and foremost, the weather is trash right now as wet snow rains down upon the plebs making their way to work and/or school.

There are already cancellations on the outskirts of town and more will follow as the day wears on . . .

Meanwhile it was interesting to notice the Star playing up weather panic that was once solely the domain of weather newsies.

In much the same way, they're also picking up TKC breaking news as well . . .

OUR TKC BLOG COMMUNITY REPORTED AN UPCOMING FIRE SALES TAX VOTE 1ST!!!

Today the Star offers only op/ed behind their paywall:

Why is KC Council even considering sneaking a sales tax hike onto the April ballot?

Hint: It's not worth paying even the price of a latte to find out the answer . . . In this weather the hot drink is more valuable.

Also, we talked about KCMO gun control agreements dying in Jeff City back in November.

The Star just caught on to the reality of 2020 election season last week: Gov. Mike Parson forgets what he told KC mayor about gun laws. How convenient

We'll talk about that more later if readers leave some good quotes on the topic.

None of this really weighs on our mind but offers an opportunity to share a really great article about the fate of dead-tree media and why other papers prosper whilst the Kansas City rag keeps cutting back year after year:

Wall St. 24/7: New York Times Can’t Save Newspaper Industry

Money line:

"(KC Star Parent Company) McClatchy’s major problem is that it cannot produce papers most people in its markets will pay for. The Times can, and the contrast between the subscription counts and the financials of the two companies is almost that simple and will continue to be . . ."

You decide . . .

  4. The Star should have a mask and carry a gun. The price they get for their rag is highway robbery. I say, give it up guys. Be the first old time newspaper to go totally digital and charge a REASONABLE price. You might find out what the music industry discovered. Getting $1.00 from 10 million downloads is better than charging $20 and selling 10,000 copies. If somebody out there still exists who doesn't have access to a computer, offer to sell them a cheap one at cost if they commit to a digital subscription. Get rid of the printing presses, delivery trucks, and all the rest. That way you guys can spend your time and effort in actually REPORTING. What a thought!

  5. at the top of a big hill right before the descent of road races, stage races, etc. a custom for a long time is the spectators have newspapers to hand to the cyclists if they want it to stuff under their jersey bc their uphill climb sweat on a 55 mph downhill will make them ill and chilly.

all this to ask, would today's flimsy KC star even be enough to serve that purpose? could you even wrap a fish in it? a minnow?

I do not celebrate the demise of attention-span real journalism. sad to see the Star's demise. In many ways they dug their own grave with ridiculous lefty and LBTGQ obsessed coverage and stuff but also there were trends they couldn't beat. I don't even know if they have the rights to their own archives because those are held by newsbank.

to me the issue is, why would anyone buy a paper? answer, to have something to read. because we like to read. to have something to read. but there is not very much to read in there. it feels like i'm watching television. the sunday paper used to occupy me all day and I could ignore my ex-wife with it but now, shit, it'lll blow right out of your hand. but creating content costs money because you have to pay someone to write it. and we expect info for free. blogs like this use the content created by others and then attack the creation of that content :) radish has spoken, thx

  6. No one reads newspapers or magazines anymore. Why would they? The best news is on-line.

  10. People against Paper shamers Make Excellent Asses Rotunds!
PAPSMEAR should let old people get a paper in their driveways without getting laughed at.

Top Reason Old People Subscribe to the paper:

    1.Crossword Puzzles
    2. Comics
    3. TV Guide
