Respectfully, this isn't "news" or anything more than a sales pitch for suckers served up by City Hall friendly "public TV" by way of a skilled but compromised PR flack on the developer payroll . . . And so we delayed this post in hopes that a few more locals would see through this bit of misdirection. Checkit:
New Royals Owner Talks About Downtown Baseball, East Village
While cautioning it's early in the game, John Sherman, the new owner of the Royals, has no problem talking up the economic benefits of downtown baseball and says he's already being lobbied on possible sites. "Baseball creates more economic opportunity in denser areas versus suburban areas or less dense areas," Sherman said in a recent interview with CityScene KC.
Corporate Thugs
ReplyDeleteGuy looks like a Trump supporter
ReplyDeleteAnd yet that there will be a new downtown stadium. Weird
ReplyDeleteHey, if the Royals Organization has enough money to buy up the land and build a new Stadium Downtown themselves, without a dime coming from the Taxpayers, let them do it!
ReplyDeleteBut only at no cost to Taxpayers for anything, INCLUDING PARKING!
Bend over bitch. You're paying for it.
Delete@8:15 "And yet that there"
ReplyDeleteyour brain still intact this morning?
He'll fuck everybody over for his own benefit. It's the Kansas Shitty Way.
ReplyDeletePlop the fucker on top on his Sunset Hills Mansion.
ReplyDeleteWhat do you expect? The (JE)Dunn's are part owners of the team and have vacant or land in need of redevelopment on the east side of downtown. I personally think it is a real stretch to say we need a downtown stadium with "The K" being such a fantastic place to see baseball. What do you want all of those union construction workers to do after the new KCI airport is finished?
ReplyDeleteMaybe this is the real reason Frank White raised all of our property taxes by 25%. So, our tax money can be given to the Royals owner to build a new downtown stadium. I wish there was a law against TIF's and Professional Sports Stadium handouts to billionaires like Clark Hunt and this guy who bought the Royals.
ReplyDeleteOur roads and infrastructure are in too much disrepair for this nonsense.
Oh JE Scum is in the mix here? Surprise, surprise.
ReplyDeleteSo basically, JE Dunn lays down dollars to be in the ownership group of the Royals, and they make their money back building the new stadium and the land deal. And they will get Jackson Co. To pay for it. They stick their noses in everything in Jack, Wyco, Joco etc because they get awarded projects.
ReplyDeleteTax dollars should never ever be used to support and professional sports team. They have owners, let the owners pay for it all. Maybe if they had to we would have better city infrastructure and hell of a lot less sports teams which might be a good thing.
ReplyDeleteThe Dunn Family and J.E. Dunn are minority stakeholders in the Royals new ownership group.
ReplyDeleteAh there you go now the clues are beginning to appear.
“It would take a public-private partnership and have to work for everybody.”
ReplyDeleteAh the ol' "public-private partnership" racket again.
The author, Kevin Collison, used to be with the KC Star, covering business and economic development. Then he left and worked for Burns and McDonnell. Now with KCPT's Flatland.
ReplyDeleteWhat the article was really telling you:
There continues to be a FULL-ON push for Downtown baseball.
The East Village location WILL be the new stadium site.
VanTrust, the folks who helped bring you the Burns and McDonnell KCMO City-financed new headquarters building, have been working on this site for years.
Sports architecture firms are already well into the planning and design of the new stadium.
Not only are J.E. Dunn minority owners of the Royals, they'll likely get a big construction project with the new stadium.
“Baseball creates more economic opportunity in denser areas versus suburban areas or less dense areas,” Sherman said.
This is like saying that animals with wings tend to be better flyers than those without wings!
"As for how a new downtown ballpark, which could cost an estimated $800 million or more, be financed, Sherman said he’s open to ideas."
Just as long as the ownership group isn't paying for most of it!
"The existing ballpark, which opened in 1973, will be almost 60 years old at the expiration of the current lease.."
The implication here is that Kauffman Stadium will eventually be imploded. But to suggest that every building over 60 years old is past it's lifespan is ludicrous. KCMO City Hall construction was completed in 1937, and stands one block away from the new stadium site. So much for that logic!
And finally, KC Mayor Quinton Lucas WILL be fully behind the push for Downtown baseball and public taxpayers footing the bill to construct the stadium for millionaire/billionaire owners. "Q" will use his black skin and smiley face to shill for his wealthy white masters.
Did you get all that from the article?
Maybe the losers could at least win before foisting the cost of a new stadium on the taxpayers. The Royals are not worth the price of the tickets they sell to watch bad, losing baseball, let alone the expense of a new stadium.
ReplyDeleteI support a downtown stadium but don't support putting in on the east side. I like the crown center location where all the parking lots are...sort of by where shook, hardy and bacon are.
ReplyDeleteNew baseball stadiums today cost $1 Billion plus. By the time the current lease with Jackson County ends, look for a new stadium to cost $1.5 Billion.
ReplyDeleteAh another devil in a suit making plans to ripoff Kansas City taxpayers for something they don't need.
ReplyDeleteAnything else new?
They could get mayoral approval by making sure their was a gay bar inside the stadium.
ReplyDeleteHell NO! Don’t even go there! We taxpayers will REVOLT! And we may anyway,
ReplyDelete11:50 am for the totally articulated win on this thread.
ReplyDeleteSo the whole reason to put the stadium downtown is to save businesses downtown? Who gives a rats ass about downtown, downtown will be a ghost town in ten years anyway.
ReplyDeletea downtown stadium would be great, imho.
ReplyDeletebut is it really practical?
Not a Royals fan per say, but if building a stadium downtown for a team that will lose the next 20 years and push the hoodrats farther east....I am all for it. And for those of you in- one, two, and soon to be three light towers - ya your rent will double once a stadium is built in your back yard, so be looking for that 2nd, 3rd, or 4th income you will need if you want to stay where you are.
ReplyDelete9:08 Frank WHITE (The black Guy) wont be giving tax money to the WHITE owner of the Royals unless the stadium is built in the Vine district!
ReplyDeleteA West Bottoms location would be a great place to put a new stadium, right next to the HY-Vee young negro (future killers) sports complex.
ReplyDelete7:45 - I dont know what you look like, and for sure dont care but if I had to guess you look like a cocksucker and take it in the ass.
