Here's another missive from urban exploring adventures . . . Take a look at middle-class JoCo encouraging freebies that might or might not help accessibility to crappy service jobs in nicer parts of town . . . Take a look:
What I learned from a day riding KC's soon-to-be-free public buses
Photo courtesy of RideKCLate last year, Kansas City's city council voted unanimously to approve a zero-fare transit plan, meaning all city bus lines will soon become free. Kansas City is the first major city to do so. It's a huge deal - a bold, wildly progressive move that was covered extensively in the national media.
They would have to pay me to ride the KC transit system
ReplyDeletewildly progressive
ReplyDeleteRideKC Streetcar Authority KCRTA has morphed into a organized crime mafia who's specialty is racketeering and robbing taxpayers so free rides is a great cover.
ReplyDeleteThe author of the article doesn't mind the stinky bums and dangerous wackos on the buses because she only rides one every 50 years or so. Ask the folks who have to ride the bus every day to get to their jobs and shop for groceries. Maybe it's worth putting up with the miscreants and not having to buy a monthly bus pass, but maybe not. Either way, their opinions are far more relevant than this author's.
ReplyDeleteIsn't our bold progressive move great you guys? Power to the people!! What? What do you mean there are murders?
ReplyDeleteI read the article, found it to be permeated with lots of social warm and fuzzies. The writer celebrates the encounter of much diversity plus what lessons we can learn from such exposure. I must admit there would be some benefits of social grounding on an infrequent basis. However not practical for those with limited time, temperament and sensitivities.
ReplyDeleteI felt the writers social praises and recommendations were that of just a one off temporary visitor in the world of public transit. Much more study needed. Dalton
And yet he seems amazed that "nice, affluent-looking men in office dress" ride the bus. Gee. How does he think people become "nice, affluent-looking men in office dress?"
ReplyDeleteHe's a writer. To pay the bills he has make shit up on the whims and orders of his masters.
ReplyDeleteMake shit up like I do when I go to the doctor. He feels góod, makes me feel good, we depart with smiles on our faces. THEN we all are shocked about the coronary. Didn't see that coming.
ReplyDeleteFreebie bus rides will eventually yield the same realities.
Good Lord what a fluff piece about free bus rides.
ReplyDeleteGeez dude, you talk about progressivism likes it’s a good thing! Get a job!!!
ReplyDelete
ReplyDeletePeople just got nailed in Kansas City with illegal tax hikes based on on areal view or no view at all and now free bus rides. Who do you people think is going to pay for this those bus rides are NOT FREE! Get with it people fight this thing you're being taxed out the ears and you stand by and bitch about your property reassessment?
Progress is good, it's the ism that's bad.
ReplyDeleteLiberal social ism politics, free everyfhing.
ism
nounINFORMAL•DEROGATORY
a distinctive practice, system, or philosophy, typically a political ideology or an artistic movement.
Capitalism?
ReplyDelete@12:03 Comment was in reference to socialism and specifically progressivism in response to 10:38 AM.
ReplyDeleteCapitalism has done just fine for generations of my family and self. Most of us started out poor and dumb, worked ourselves into jobs that sustain a productive humble living. Some excelled according to their commitment and hard work which in turn generated opportunities for further advancements.
ReplyDeleteCapitalisms with all its faults gives opportunities to those who put in the work to better their lives.
Mercy an airheads book report from a bus ride. Here let me give you mine today. On the 107 a man was picking the chocolate chips out of a granola bar he obviously got for free from a pantry or sth. After getting all chips out of it he littered the bar an wrapper on the bus floor.
ReplyDeleteOn the ay back the 107 already had 2 bikes on it at my stop so driver did not stop. Supposed to ask if a transfer needed but she did not. Didn’t want a conversation I guess. As a matter of fact I did need a transfer bc mine expired at 10:34 and this was at 10-22 and the next one not until another hour. So I rode the number 11 bus to 12th and main. A dangerous two block ride to 10th and main transit plaza bc of ridiculousness of streetrails. Anyway argument with #106 bus driver about it and had to pay a 2nd fare. Should just always get a day pass I guess. Thx, radish
^^^Is there a point to this? Inquiring minds want to know.

DeleteShort buses?
ReplyDeleteInstall seats on top of the buses so homeless can ride with the wind blowing their stink downwind.
