Biking and walking are fine pastimes and a legit way to get around the city . . . However, in the new year we've seen THE RISE OF KANSAS CITY BIKE SUPREMACY take hold. Accordingly, activists have engaged in online bullying, claim their cause trumps crime funding as they hurl nasty allegations at whoever opposes their misguided plan that has already been rejected by Council.
Accordingly, here's another glimpse at their 2020 agenda wherein many activists FAIL to compromise or engage in reasonable discourse. Instead they continue to denounce "toxic driving culture" and co-opt the language of social justice in order to win their friends big money consulting contracts.

Welcome to Mile 10: BikeWalkKC's 10th Anniversary
In 2010, a group of bicycle and pedestrian advocates came together with a desire to address some of the most pressing issues facing our region: lack of infrastructure for safe and comfortable biking and walking, high rates of obesity related issues in kids and adults, and a ranking by the BBC Radio as the country's "Worst City for Cycling."
Today and this weekend, those bike paths that take up space where we could drive cars and get places on time, will be empty. Empty for the foreseeable future.
ReplyDeleteWhat a joke.
"Toxic Driving Culture".
STFU
Biking is hobby, I hope they are out biking tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteBikers are arrogant and dangerous. Get em off the road!
ReplyDeleteGive these clowns a couple buckets of paint and some brushes and send them on their way.
ReplyDeleteAll 14 members of "BikeWalkKC" can participate as soon as the snow is removed from KCMO streets.
Which will be later in the spring.
Fantasyland on the plains!
They need to have a bike license that shows who to contact for next of kin, proof of vehicle insurance when they damage a vehicle and of course health insurance so the victims in the vehicles are covered for injuries they sustain.
ReplyDeleteIt makes no sense that they don’t have insurance now, we have to have vehicle insurance that they can piggyback off of when an accident happens but yet we have to use our own when they smash into our cars, at an added expense to us when the insurance goes up for a claim.
The Eric Bunch Gestapo
ReplyDeleteCan I ride my motorcycle in the "bike" lanes?
ReplyDeleteThe city has a $700 million deficiency on its pension contributions ...so, if we start ranking needs, bike paths are number 687.
ReplyDelete@ Hyperblogal, Are you sure the BWKC is really ranked that high on the list? I doubt it.
ReplyDeleteFix potholes. More dog catchers for the off leash dogs that terrorize KC neighborhoods. Stop constructing streetscapes with huge high curbs that bump out forcing me to merge my bike into traffic even if no car is parked on the right side ... kill the ‘complete streets’ fad. Run street sweepers esp on the streets with existing bike lanes. Fix streetlights. Fix sidewalks.
ReplyDeleteThere I just made real world suggestions to improve cycling and motorist safety and didn’t suck off four hundred million from basic services to enrich consultants and activists.

Senator swallow re comment above about motors in bike lanes, surprisingly in Holland the scooters and kind of big motorcycles are allowed on the bike paths. Was a shock to see. Here anything with a motor not allowed on paths, I think. E bikes are a new category. There are some bizarre hateful comments on here by people who kind of want to sound tough I guess by talking really hateful about people who get around town on a bike. I think it’s just hard cracker resentment. Thank god I’ve never encountered such aggression from KC motorists. Carelessness and distraction. Oh yes. But never hostility or aggression.

If someone ran on an anti-bike lane platform they would win office easily
ReplyDeleteAgain all need to relize that the bikers latest martyr ran a red light and slammed into the car. He was not following the rules of the road. Ride and drive safely like we have been doing for over a 100 years and all is cool.
ReplyDeleteThe spandex clad bikers need to put plows on the front of their bikes to help the city clear the ice and snow from the streets.
ReplyDeleteThe city needs to get the Paseo street signs reinstalled.
"the most pressing issues facing our region: lack of infrastructure for safe and comfortable biking"
ReplyDeleteuhhh...yeahhh. what a bunch of self-important assholes.
$400 million for a gimmick huh? Only in Kansas Shitty can con men get away this shit.
ReplyDeleteSo go Bust . The water and Sewer rates keep climbing and climbing , affects everyone in Kansas City . While the bikes a given few . With free bus service who would ride a bike with the cold ,hot, rain and snow . Go ride in the Parks we have .
ReplyDeleteMake bikes get licenses, $150 per year plus proof of insurance. No riding in packs like the fairies do now.
ReplyDeleteWish bike walk KC would work something other than their mouths. For example I’ve never once seen them organize an effort to clean up bike lanes even though they advocate for more bike lanes. They totally full of sand and sticks and debris and broken glass.
ReplyDelete$400,000,000 just to paint lines on the street?
ReplyDeleteI wish these bikers would do a mass rally and all run out on their bikes on I-35 at rush hour. Problem would be solved except for the cleaning up and identifying stuff.
ReplyDeleteBikeWalk KC and their Councilman Bunch totally lack credibility...and they are so arrogant, self-important, and incestuous...they don't even get it. They hate cars and have created a cult that lacks any effective leadership. They believe they are entitled to LOTS of tax money for bike lanes that no one uses. Our city has much more important priorities and Bunch/BikeWalk KC should be totally ignored.
ReplyDeleteSorry. I got some DUIs years ago, so now I have to bike to work, even in cold weather. If I don't bike, I have to walk. I'll be biking tomorrow for sure. I pay taxes. I can ride in the street. Go around me. But, I don't mind cars. Not all bikers are dicks. I stay out of the road when I can.
