FAKE NEWS: SURVEY SEYZ KANSAS CITY FIXES MOST POTHOLES!!!

KCTV5 carries propaganda that ISN'T EVEN CLOSE TO REALISTIC and offers talking point data points that don't line up with a quick drive in Midtown. Somehow, 12th & Oak thinks writing this will convince voters who don't spend any time on local streets. Fact is THIS REPORT FROM CITY HALL IS INCORRECT and a 10 minute drive in this town should provide all of the evidence anybody needs to the contrary.

  1. Very simple - City Hall has repaired 96% of the potholed RECORDED as having been reported to 311.

    1. I go all over town by car bike & bus. Yes there are some potholes but so what? The people hand wringing about a few potholes are often the ones whining about government spending from the other side of their mouths.

It's very costly to maintain the road network built to benefit car drivers, but many of them want it to be a free priveledge.

  4. Oh No!!! What do we do? We have a narrative here!! You mean the city actually works??? That means all our complaining and worthless comments are lies!!!! What do we do know???

  5. The problem is that there are pot holes in the first place. Major roads in KC which should have been replaced were not. This is called deferred maintenance. How do you think Clever/Reed/James paid for their grocery store, 18th and Vine, and the Jazz Museum??? Disgusting.

    1. Right you want to tax & spend uncountable billions so the polluting things you want, like high speed roads, will be free for you to use. But for things you don't appreciate, like food for other people and bedrock American culture, you whine "too much $$ too much $$".

  7. BULL CRAP This city has cried to hire more people to fix potholes, when white men willing and able to be hired went to apply the city said NO WHITES! They were not hired! City Hall and the mayor of Kansas City are RACIST! These were white men who had reputable jobs before and NO CONVICTIONS. The city said they didn't need the help!

  9. Shame on all of you.

The city is doing a GOOD JOB of fixing our infrastructure and working hard to meet demands but this blog does nothing but berate that work.

Are there improvements that could be made? Sure. But overall KCMO is doing great work and much better than last year. You would think people would appreciate that but not on this blog. That is truly sad.

  10. The city is actually patching potholes, which is an improvement over the Sly James approach, which was ignore anything south of 31st Street, but patching isn't fixing.

  12. I've chatted with all these various city workers for quite some time. They don't give a shit because the city doesn't give a shit. They just collect their checks and follow orders to just slap some crap in those holes, whatever it takes to shut the public up and that's that.

  13. Apparently the city hasnt been down raytown road, redbridge from blue ridge to hickman mills, hickman mills from redbridge to bannister. blue ridge from 71 to longview where they laid 2 steel plates with gaps big enough to eat tires on both sides. City traffic study at hillcrest and redbridge for 2 days first of january - guess they didnt notice the collapsed pavement 75 % across the intersection. How does 2 trucks and 6 guys tossing shovels of cold patch in a hole with no roller equal paving ? If your anywhere near 111 th and raytown road or view high from 109 th to 470 you've seen it

  15. The city has never fixed 96% of anything. They do, however, attempt to ignore voters 100% of the time.

  18. Hey, GopherKC (yes, you’re a City lackey). You must have your head up your ass if you actually believe KCMO City roads are getting better. Wholesale deferred maintenance still exists. Over 50% of all KC roads are in poor or worse condition according to a 2015 study conducted by the City, itself. Public Works funding doesn’t even come close to providing annual maintenance as outlined by both the Public Works Director and Asst. Director. These are facts. You’re just City leader ass-kisser...

  20. sheet main, I was driving down on Gregory towards Ward, there are some whoppers there. Work van has heavy truck suspension. It felt like surely I broke something off, but nothing on the pavement coming back through.

  22. Go4KC, leave your lair at City Hall, sign out a car, go north on Forest, cross the Heart of America Bridge, drive north on N. Oak to NE 44th, take a right on 44th, drive east to North Campbell, then take another right.

You are now driving by a TWO BLOCK LONG POTHOLE running south from 44th past 43rd Terrace to 43rd Street. This pothole has existed for MORE THAN THREE YEARS, and I personally have a collection of eight different Case Numbers assigned to it by 311. Oh, and calls to Councilpersons Shields and Bunch's offices are always referred to 311.

You will see that City did fill in about a five foot long section of this TWO BLOCK LONG HOLE last summer, and you will also see that your records at City Hall list this entire pothole as "repaired".
The "repair" (already almost fully deteriorated,) was not even made to the widest or deepest parts of this TWO BLOCK LONG, THREE YEAR OLD POTHOLE!

Situations similar to this are found elsewhere, and are why there is so much "negativity" on this site. If you choose to consider patching five feet of a two block long problem "progress", and if your attitude is typical of City Government, shame on you!
