Who Will Win Fight For Kansas City Tenants 'Bill Of Rights' Today?!?!

Trick question.

Rents are rising one way or another and this debate mostly serves to reinforce unfair assumptions about low-income residents and, ironically, make their blight even more miserable by way of limiting options as more landlords bail on the increasingly restrictive inner-city bottom-end market.

Kansas City one step closer to getting Tenant Bill of Rights

KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -- Kansas City is one step closer to getting a Tenant Bill of Rights. It was less than a year ago people were marching outside City Hall demanding to see some kind of action to hold landlords accountable. Now, they're one vote away from seeing their demonstration turn into regulation.

  1. "Legislating" ever more personal irresponsibility in KCMO.
As though there's not enough already at 12th and Oak.
    What could possibly go wrong?

  2. Small landlords have already started selling out. This is going to hurt them the most so everyone will be stuck with big business landlords. No affordable housing there. I think it's the funniest thing when people cut their own throats.

  3. This is bad legislation.

  4. If pass, I will only rent privately to people I know or friends of people I know, you idiots can just live on the streets, really don’t care, lost my compassion for you some time ago, you just want more and more!

  5. Nothing cures high prices like high prices . Rent will find it’s own level.

  6. Mayor Q "Selfie" Lucas will add a line to the resume; but the tenants and the landlords will be worse off.

  7. Just like the poster above says, this is terrible and really will only affect the little guy. This is literally does help corporations. If they made an exception like "rules only apply if you own more than 10 properties" then it's at least something but right now it's going to destroy the city, make everyone more miserable, and cost everyone more

Also, these protesters are getting paid by people who stand to profit on this

  8. Get the felons out of jail asap. Give them free bus rides. Take away landlords ability to screen prospective tenants. The city council has a very narrow focus of representation.

  9. Just when you thought livability in this town could not get any worse... here ya go folks... neighbors and actual property owners now have to deal with the low lifes who rent houses. Property owners, tax payers, ought to have a say in who gets to rent where. Nobody wants to live next door to a felon. Know why? Because those types of people often have bad manners, no take care of anything and drink/smoke/get high, hang around others like them or worse. Its like having an infestation of roaches. It brings property values and quality of life down to rock bottom and some neighborhoods cannot afford that. Nobody should be renting a home for longer than 2 years. Its a bad use of money and if you cant get your shit together in 24 months, you're your own problem, not the landlord.

  10. A a rule renters do not have the same level of pride in the home; but in my observation neither the home owner nor the home renters in Kansas City have a level of pride in the home. Nearly 50% of the individuals living in Kansas City rent so the resources would be better spent addressing the poor quality resident and not the poor quality home. The better quality people have long since moved elsewhere, or so it would appear. None seems to care one way or another if the lawn is mowed, if the cars are parked in the grass, if the house is painted, if the trees are trimmed...

And the City of Kansas City point to the "home owners associations"; but the HOAs are interested in nothing more than embezzling the dues.

  13. Follow the money! Who paid for all of those T-shirts and professionally made signs? The bull horn? Why do so many wear Chief's shirts? What if those thousands of dollars were given to the needy? Yeah, sure, they'd waste it on drugs of alcohol but that is their right, right? Would any of them use it to pay their rent? Of course not, are you crazy? That would be the responsible thing to do and they don't intend to be responsible! Are you a Republican or something? Gimme free rent, gimme free heat, gimme free food, gimme free t-shirts, gimme free bus rides, gimme free money at the corner, gimme, gimme, gimme!
