Quick peek at this low-key bit of biz welfare at the expense of residents, shoppers and taxpayers . . . Take a look:
Recently passed Waldo CID met with frustration by residents
Despite push back, the Kansas City, Missouri, City Council Thursday approved a special sales tax to improve the Romanelli Shopping Center at West Gregory Boulevard and Wornall Road. https://www.kshb.com/news/local-news/recently-passed-waldo-cid-met-with-frustration-by-residents
They need to upgrade that shopping center because the hood rats need better places to rob when they visit from the ghetto. Eventually they will take over Waldo anyway.
ReplyDeleteThe owners just need to raise the rent on tenants and then tenants raise the prices on products and services. Why do they need government involved. They want to hide behind a tax and later blame the higher government on the tax. Why does Whole Foods need their own CID 1% tax as well??? Just stop going there!
ReplyDeleteWHERE'S WALDO?
ReplyDeleteIn the corporate welfare line!
The Plaza needs welfare, Downtown needs welfare, the Crossroads need welfare, 18th and Vine needs more welfare, Burns and McDonnell needs welfare, BNIM needs welfare, H&R Block needs welfare, Waddell and Reed needs welfare, KC Star/McClatchy needs welfare, etc., ad nauseum.
Everybody needs welfare EXCEPT Jackson County property owners.

ReplyDeleteFollow the money. How much money did the landlord contribute to the council people who voted in favor of it or did they get the money under the table?
ReplyDeleteI'm normally opposed to these kinds of things, but this particular CID applies only to that building and is a 1% sales tax paid for only by customers of businesses in that building. Taxpayers are not on the hook for anything, and property tax has not been abated. This is much ado about nothing.
ReplyDeleteTaxpayers are not on the hook for anything
ReplyDeleteHAaaaaahahahahahahah
Oops sorry.
^^^^^If you oppose that tax, simply don't shop in that building. I realize it's a difficult concept, but work on it. I'm sure you'll be able understand. In a few years.
ReplyDeleteThey be tryin to bring in da hoodrats, dey has ta make it look all ghettoish and stuff
ReplyDeletethe owner can take out and pay back a loan instead of asking for a handout
ReplyDeleteDon't shop there if you don't want to pay the increased tax. I'd rather it be on specific buildings than on whole sections of town. They should be made to put a sign on door and cash registers about increased tax in these areas.
ReplyDeleteProblem with not shopping there is pretty soon you cant avoid paying it somewhere.
ReplyDelete
ReplyDeleteWhat they need to do is raise their prices not the tax rate. So just don't do business with them.

ReplyDeleteYes, you are correct, but the problem with these CID approvals is that the Council is allowing certain individuals to circumvent the taxing authority of a municipality.
When the City allows their authority to be breached via political contributions/personal favors, they call into question the very foundation which they rely upon to govern.
The Council is inviting an angry tax revolt from residents and further erosion of trust in their ability to lead.
