TKC MUST SEE!!! KANSAS CITY TINY LOT ORDINANCE THREATENS HOMEOWNERS!!!

Despite the new mayoral administration and promises of housing reform, Kansas City developers and all manner of scumbags are still pushing the "density" myth that will ruin neighborhoods and help real estate speculators build more of those those vacuous, post-modern matchbook structures made out of shipping containers and assorted garbage.

To wit . . .

KANSAS CITY NEIGHBORS AGAINST TINY LOT INFILL BLIGHT CONTINUE THEIR PUSH AGAINST AN IRRESPONSIBLE ZONING RULES THAT IGNORE COMMUNITY CONCERN!!!

Here's the word . . .

URGENT!! City council will be voting on this ordinance Dec 5th. Visit www.ordinance190506.com to contact your Council members and Mayor Lucas.

On November 13th, the joint committee of Neighborhood Planning and Development and Housing adopted a substitute ordinance that fails to address any of the concerns expressed about the ordinance. I am going to walk through the substitute ordinance to explain the changes and why they still fail to address the concerns expressed by the public. Full council votes on this ordinance Dec 5th. 1. I wish quinton would pay attention to zoning, it's actually much more important than the rental crusade that's going on. Home owners have a bigger investment in kc than renters. That's not fair but it's a fact.

    1. You tell neighborhoods that anybody can come in and build on top of them and that discourages anybody from living here in the long timer. Once people know about the infill rule they'll be very cautious about where they chose to live. It's basically a license for crowding that other suburban communities quickly legislate against.

    2. Density drinking game rules: Take one shot every 3rd time you hear this term in a city hall meeting. Every time would kill a small horse.

Be careful not to include "walk-ability" in these contests or your liver will never forgive you.

  4. Density has it's time and place but I've seen some of these developers do truly awful things to urban neighborhoods. They're basically doing a build out and potentially causing damage to nearby homes as a means of buying up more property.

Zoning laws are tricky, historically they have been used for both good and nefarious reasons. But letting people build on top of one another has never been a good idea. That's why so many communities have neighborhood associations to try and stop non-conforming structures.

what we're seeing in KC is a lot of people trying to work the system in order to take advantage of poor code enforcement.

  5. KCjd @9:09,
I don't disagree with your statement that you've "seen some of these developers do truly awful things to urban neighborhoods.", but would like to point out that some of those "truly awful things" are the beige and pastel "Mushroom Villages" and "Marching McMansions" of banality that infest all of our suburbs.

Your argument is properly directed against uncontrolled developers and failure of the responsibilities of Civil Government.

Despite the rants of some who I suspect own nothing, the size of a dwelling has nothing to do with quality of life or property values, those result from people living comfortably.

  6. The ultimate goal out of all this is to remove zoning laws all together. You'll have developers buying up old homes in hyde park and volker and tearing them down and building apartments and ruining the history and the neighborhood. This is what happened in portland and many other cities. Stop this before it starts

It is BEST to get out of the city of kansas city as soon as one possibly can.

  10. As usual, KCMO is about five years behind the rest of the country.
All the urban hype and millenials flocking to cities is now officially yesterday's news.
Young people are leaving cities and looking to take advantage of the slower pace, lower costs, and family atmosphere of small towns all over the country.
Density, public transit, smart cities, avocado toast.....
All brushed aside by the latest big big new things.
    Short attention-span theater.
And the KCMO momentum continues to carry it relentlessly toward the cliff.

  12. Why get a tiny house on a small lot. Get a couple of Acers out of town. I you can expand your home in the future. Have a out door living area in warm weather. A couple of grills and smoker's OUT door living area and less crime .
