TKC MUST READ!!! BIKEWALK KC CLAIMS MIDTOWN INTERSECTION 'DANGEROUS BY DESIGN' AND DENOUNCES KANSAS CITY STAR LACKLUSTER REPORTING!!!

A tragic crash over the holidays has sparked an uprising among a community of cyclists and advocates for more accessible Kansas City streets.

To wit . . .

BIKEWALK KC IS ON THE WARPATH AFTER ONE OF THEIR LEADERS WAS STRUCK DOWN IN A SKETCHY CROSSING!!!

Thankfully, Pablo Sanders, Jr. is on the road to recovery but the complaints from this group have garnered more intensity following the tragedy.

Check their latest news blast:

Rush to victim blaming obscures the facts about our dangerous streets

Money line as these crusaders share urban planning knowledge that reveals their goal to move beyond a collection of enthusiasts providing mere bike chain lube advice:

"The intersection at Southwest Trafficway and Valentine Road is dangerous by design, and plans to make it safer are waiting on action from City Hall.

"We are disappointed to see The Star’s coverage of the Pablo Sanders crash, which fails to capture the lived experiences of people who walk and bike in Kansas City, and how our streets are dangerous by design.

"We responded off-the-record to a Star reporter who relayed information she had received from KCPD. That information, and the subsequent article, focused on the color of the cyclist’s clothes and speculation about his behavior, with no mention of the conditions at the crash site or results of a crash investigation or reconstruction – something we see all too often in media coverage of these crashes."

Read their post in its entirety for a look at proposed solutions and more insight into the situation.

And so, because we understand this group has an increasing amount of influence inside City Hall and there's simply no question about their commitment to the cause of street accessibility . . .

LOOK FOR INCREASED BIKEWALK KC ACTIVISM IN 2020!!!

  1. Can't say I disagree with them about the star. As far as streets go: Yes, drivers need to be more aware of cyclists and the other way around.

    1. Slower speeds in Kansas City = More tickets. Not a great plan. This is a tough one because a lot of the bike lanes I see are always empty.

    2. ^^^^ +100

There need to be streets in Kansas City where cyclists aren't allowed. Southwest traffic way is one of those.

      Delete
    3. ^^^^ Nope.

Dangerous rule. You start blocking access and we have truck only transit on kc main roads. The streets belong to all residents.

      Delete
  2. KC drivers are the worst no matter what form of transpiration they're using.

  3. Right or wrong near midnight on any street with a 35 MPH limit on a bike is a gamble even with a bike lane.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Eric 'spandex' Bunch sure has the Bike/WalkKC propaganda machine and it's minions working double time.
Agree that riding a bike anywhere at midnight is a recipe for disaster.

  5. Why can't BikeWalkKC own up to the fact one of their own broke traffic laws and several safety issues in this incident.

It's very clear to even the most common layman the rider was at fault and a direct cause of the accident. I have driven through this intersection off and on for 50 plus years and not ever had an accident there. It is controlled by traffic lights and when all obey the lights it works well.

Sort of reaching here but was alcohol involved here? Was the bike rider possibly inebriated?

Hopefully Pablo has learned a valuable but painful lesson here and will accept blame and start advocating for riders to obey the laws of the street and traffic and use common sense thinking before riding at night as in what kind of clothing to be wearing, lights on the bike and a helmet securely fastened.

Little sympathy when bike lanes are unused because of no riders.
Inconvenience thousands daily for empty bike lanes.

  8. Riding bikes on busy streets, means a certain percentage of bike riders are going to get squashed.

When a car hits another car, it is bad, but when a 2 thousand pound car hits a guy peddling a bike, it's really bad - for the guy on the bike.

Pretending that guys on bikes, pretending that they are cars and can go 50 mph is like pretending that Chaz Bono is really a guy.

No doubt, next up on the agenda, will be the insistence from guys peddling bikes, to use the "correct" reference to the two wheeled bicycle they are driving after it is renamed Bikcar. We can pretend that bikes are cars.

Hey, if people want to pretend that riding a bike on a dangerous, heavily used street, filled with 2,000 lb. iron machines going up to 55 in a 45 is NOT dangerous and it is the fault of the people in cars who don't see them, or, can't move fast enough (Because the bike is going 10mph and taking up an entire fuckin lane.), then let's all pretend that the injuries don't really hurt that bad and pain isn't real.

There ya go, problem fixed - you're welcome.

  10. GOOD NEWS!~
Councilman Pantyzinna Bunch just bought himself a "Penny Farthing" for Christmas, and now he's riding high!

  11. The bike people think they are the only ones on the road. They don't have license, insurance and most don't wear clothing that makes them visible. They don't belong on multi-lane roads.

    ReplyDelete
  12. When did victim blaming get defined as being irresponsible for ones own actions? White people have a keen way on trying to make everybody else at fault for their failure to follow traffic rules that everybody on the road have to follow. This is beyond ridiculous.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Interesting and fun fact- bike riders don’t have insurance. When an idiot at fault bike rider causes three thousand dollars of damage to someone’s vehicle guess who’s insurance has to pay and guess who’s insurance premiums go up?

It’s time to pass a law requiring bike riders to have $50,000 insurance to cover repairs to vehicles they damage when they cause an accident. That would also include at least $100,000 of medical for the person or persons injured in the vehicle.

    1. Yes, but Pablo isn't pushing this bullshit agenda. White people are you even more racist piece of shit.

    2. And dont worry, Paublo probably pretends like he's not Black just like Mexicans try to pass for White. White supremacy rules supreme.

  15. Ver often, as in this case, when you run a red light traffic signal you just might get in an accident.

    ReplyDelete

  16. Look for increased bikewalk KC activism in 2020! Look for increased bike accidents in 2020. They don't obey the law. The idiot got hit because he an asshole who thinks bikers are above the law....NOT

  17. STFU you bike NAZIS!!!

  18. Why is the intersection at Valentine and SW Trafficway dangerous? There is a light, and east-west traffic each has their own turns. It's probably one of the safer intersections in the city--as long as everyone abides by the lights.

    ReplyDelete
  19. The intersection is even more dangerous if you run a red light.

  20. Bike lanes suck. So does Bike Walk KC.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Nope.

Your not getting $400 million of our money to blow and play around with.

  22. I sold my motorcycle after three years of riding in KC. Simply wasn't worth it to be riding in heavy traffic with not a single person paying attention to anything around them. Cagers, truckers, cops, nada. Not to mention that everyone has some chip on their shoulder. Cagers p.o.'d 'cause my puny horn disturbed your facebooking while drifting into my lane, truckers laying on the horn 'cause I had the audacity to zip by them on the right and merge HARD into their lane as they're ponderously rolling along in the right lane. The HiPo sgt. with a fvkin' mouthful of chew p.o.'d 'cause he was too stupid to look for my plate (plain as day). Toy bikers are in the same position except more exposed, less protected, less able to respond in a road-going manner, and a fat-ass I-own-the-road attitude.

  23. Wow, this bike stuff is so interesting and all, but what is going on with Toni Bones?

    ReplyDelete
  24. there are plenty of great bicycle trails all over the Metro -- scenic, fun and safe-- why risk your neck in traffic??

    ReplyDelete
  25. Just curious, what percentage of the bike riders are homosexuals? 85-90%?

    ReplyDelete
  26. Stay in JOCO, fucking bike Nazi's.

  27. Bike Walk KC has shot its wad and are banished to a windowless room in the sub-basement of Killa Shitty's soul where they can shout at the walls, point their fingers, grimace spittlingly, and issue anathemas that no one will listen to.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I looked up this intersection on Google Earth, and examined the signal.

Bicyclists: Walk your bike over to the crosswalk where the little push button is on the pole at the corner of the sidewalk. That will make the traffic signal act like some pedestrian is wanting to cross in the crosswalk. This will make the light for your direction go and stay green longer; more than enough time for you to cross on bicycle.

  29. Pablo died today, people. Seriously.

  30. Why is it when someone farts near the KC Star it smells like Vaseline?

    ReplyDelete
  31. 5:39. If that's true it is only his fault.

    ReplyDelete
  32. May He Rest In Peace.

    ReplyDelete
  33. @5:39; If that is true it is sad. But it means 1 less red light running cyclist drivers have to worry about.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Bike/WalkKC claims the intersection of the accident is badly designed but they never critize the fiasco on Armour which had to be redone because the bike lanes created an unsafe condition because vehicle traffic's vision was impaired at the intersections.

    ReplyDelete
  35. ^^^^^Very true, and THAT'S a street that's "dangerous by design." Last time I was through there, I saw not one bicyclist or walker using those bike lanes.

    ReplyDelete
  36. My question is why have we taxpayers funded all of these park bike trails, Santa Fe Trail etc for bicyclists. However, the idiot bicyclists think they should ride their bike during rush hour on the busiest streets. Plain stupidity and lack of common sense.

Most bicyclists are nerds who could never play sports but think they are Lance Armstrong on steroids and whatever else Armstrong was injecting. Most of us grew up at age 14 and quit riding bicycles and started dating girls.

    ReplyDelete
  37. BikeWalkKC has no credibility. Cult culture with poor leadership and inflated data....all on your tax dollars.
So they scream about the intersection on the Trafficway and Valentine, after they made every intersection on Armour Blvd totally UNSAFE. Clueless hypocrites.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Ignatius C. Einstein12/30/19, 11:20 PM

@ 937, The reason is that recreational bicyclists ride on the trails. You know, kids and families. The bicycle terrorists ride on streets to hinder traffic and see how many millions that they can steal from taxpayers. The problem is that council people and the APWA (based in Crown Center) are to stupid and scared to stand up to these turds on trikes.
