Millennials Are Leaving Religion And Not Coming Back

Millennials have earned a reputation for reshaping industries and institutions - shaking up the workplace, transforming dating culture, and rethinking parenthood. They've also had a dramatic impact on American religious life. Four in ten millennials now say they are religiously unaffiliated, according to the Pew Research Center.

Hard to believe they're not into plastering on a smile, singing some lame songs by the hip and happening praise band then hearing some doofus with spiked highlighted hair "unpack" the scripture for them.

If God exists, he sure as hell doesn't recognize the American church.

  4. Maybe the KC star editorial board can write something and make them come back to religion.

Anything they write and convincing people always works.

Heard they were writing an upcoming piece on nominating Antonio Brown for the Walter Payton Man of the Year award.

  5. These kids these days just purchase "enlightenment" from some charlatan in the shaman, yogi, or actualization biz. They get a certificate with

"This is to acknowledge that Starflower Moonrise Helling has completed her 2 week course and is officially recognized as an enlightened master of life".

  8. @7:58 nails it, they're leaving CHURCHES, not BELEIFS!
There hasn't been a connection between the two since the Middle Ages.

  10. Religion is the same as a bumper sticker
Faith is what you truly believe
It’s good to question religious dogma. I spent years of my life ignoring churches. But I never stopped believing in my faith. Some are believers their entire lives. But some, like me, come to a solid realization later in life that brings peace to your soul. I never get upset when people say it’s all bullshit because once upon a time I was one them. I just know that at some point in their lives that they will have a moment when they will rationally think the whole thing through and find out what I have found. That there is a higher power and it’s not a bunch of con men in a cristal palace

  13. With all the student debt and wages not keeping up with inflation, who wants to get up early on Sunday morning to be pressured directly or indirectly to give hard-earned money to pay for a giant building and a minister, keep the electricity and other utilities running, be urged to shake hands with fellow parishioners sitting near us who might have just picked a booger, and allow people to worship en masse? We can then get into all the carbon spewed into God's clean air and the risk of injury or death while driving to and from the church, and decide that God invented the internet (not Al Gore) so we could gather electronically in a giant videoconference to worship together and remain anonymous so no one could pressure us for money.

  14. Hey, Bladder Mouth @10:46, get off your High Horse!
If you'd bother to read, you'd see that most of the people posting here today are expressing a belief in a higher Being, just not in the institutions called "Churches".

That would make them Deists, or at the most extreme Agnostics.
Sorry, but YOU'RE the HATE GROUP shouting here today!

  15. 2 reasons for this:

    1. Media hyper sensationalizing every church scandal that arises

    2. Certain denominations abandoning beliefs held for centuries in the name of leftism and political correctness. When a church abandons its beliefs its followers will abandon the church.

    1. 135. Actually it doesn’t. Up until the Victorian age it wasn’t really anything other than a bible story
But it became popular later on for reasons I don’t know. But how can atheists have a problem with the message of ...”peace on earth good will towards men”. But they do

  19. Millenials hate ANYTHING that doesn't cater to or benefit THEM. It is so true. Don't believe me? Hire one or two to work for you. They do the minimum, complain the most, and call in sick when their cats won't eat.

  20. Just as well...we need to get these organizations paying taxes, and Millenials
screw up everything they touch. Most have a memory of a nanosecond. How many time do I have to tell them the hot chocolate is without whipped cream before they still get it wrong? They would bring any value to organized religion.

  24. After the Catholic Church was found to NOT be the true church of God (sex abuse, rape, financial fraud, idol worship of mary, buying your way to heaven with indulgences) then I can see why catholics flee the church - who wants their child to be raped? But mostly I see young people "making" their own religions. They think they are so smart and have it all figured out. So they 1. don't believe in God (no time to consider God), 2. do believe in a God that they have conjured up along with their rules (to fit their lifestyles), or 3. make themselves the God (like Hitler did), or 4. think that "I am a good person so God wont punish me", I have a passing gradecard. All which lead to hell. Your in God's world, breathing his air, surrounded by his creations - so maybe you should look for the real God before you have to face him on judgement day? There is no excuse. Your either for the real God or against him. Its your choice. Only you will be held accountable for it -for all time. Heaven will be like a super resort vacation and the universe's highest paid job combined. Hell on the other hand will have no beer, no wine, no sex, no drugs, no cigs, no sports, no food, no light, no computers, no friends, no hope. Maybe you should crack open your bible to read your future either way. Its very clearly spelled out!

    1. ^^^^ I don't disagree completely but you don't offer any salvation or hope or path. Just fire and brimstone with no way to help people. Seems like your just condemning people without trying to offer them a way out. I say John 3:16 is a good start and leave it at that. I'm not here to preach. Just want to tell people to be good to one another and be kind.

  26. John 3:16 = "for God so loved the world" ----- it does not mean God saves all. Because God made hell for the people and spiritual beings that reject him. It means God saves those that decides to follow him. If God wanted to save everyone - he would and could do it. But God intends to and will punish the evil people and reward his followers. In the end, people and spiritual beings that reject God will live together - what a surprise for the people. Think you old boss is bad? Wait till you see the demons. read your bible it tells how to avoid all that.....

  27. 11:29..... my response to your post is: wouldn't you tell someone if say the mafia, or drug cartel or the Navy Seals were really pissed at them and was planning to come, kill them/family and then after their deaths torture their souls for all time? But they could instead, agree to a truce with their adversary and live in peace as friends. Or would you not say anything and let them get killed? The vast majority of people are on the fast track to hell. Ignorance is no excuse. The fact the sun comes out everyday, and DNA is so complex proves God exists. The fear of God is the beginning of wisdom. Having no fear of God will just take you to hell. Once your scared, if you seek God you will find him.
