Kansas City Public TV Welcomes Refugees

A progressive glimpse at Kansas City immigrant life with an upbeat and hopeful spin as border control policies under the current Administration have undergone a radical transformation.

Nevertheless, the reality is that FEW AMERICANS WANT OPEN BORDERS and Democratic Party strategists have been unsuccessful in challenging Prez Trump on immigration - One of his most successful arguments that has attracted legions of support.

With all that in mind in addition to the fact that the Christmas story is basically just the tale of a refugee family . . . Here's the local angle on the topic:

"Finding Refuge in KC takes us inside the homes and lives of five refugees who are giving back to the community that received them. A young Congolese man leads his college student government. A loving Somali mother helps new arrivals like herself. A Syrian family is grateful for Kansas City’s welcoming spirit and its medical expertise. A former refugee from Europe is a beloved restaurateur. And a Vietnamese businessman regales his customers with a soulful version of Frank Sinatra’s “My Way.”

Take a look:

  2. PBS constantly has a hand out for financial support, so it makes sense that they would embrace other needy causes.

  3. "...the Christmas story is basically just the tale of a refugee family." A lie. Joseph and Mary were not refugees. They were returning to Bethlehem (Joseph's home town) from Nazareth to be included in a census as required by the government. Apocryphal? Likely, but that's the story.

What do you study, the Hallmark Bible?

  5. ^^^Since when is the (more than doubtful) flight to Egypt part of the Christmas story? Think before you post.

  6. Well, considering that the records exist and that the Census was conducted in 4BC, and everyone had to be at what you term their "home town" by the first of April of that year, there's room for the Flight to fit into some of the gaps as well!

  7. Kliff Kuehl, the President of Kansas City Public Television lives in Leawood, Kansas!

Nick Haines, host of KCPT's KC Week In Review lives in JoCo!

"Professor" Kraske, host of KCUR's Up-To-Date lives in JoCo!

The majority of "journalists" and "media personalities" who report on Kansas City do not reside in KCMO.

  9. 10:08, and others, if you don't believe in the Christmas story as presented in the New Testament, you can't turn around and use it as an example to support refugees.

In other words, you can't have it both ways.

You Kansas City Atheist Coalition idiots are such phonies...if you didn't have double standards, you wouldn't have ANY standards.

And a big fuck you to new President Jordan...you sure did a number on the lady you supported for representative in the last election. Here's hoping you don the same shitty job for the KCAC.

Could you provide some kind of non-biblical historical evidence that (1) there was a census in 4 BC and (2) that everyone was required to return to their home towns for that census? Thank you.

  14. The record of the census exists on a stele in the French City of Arles. I've seen it, and my High School Latin was good enough to read it.

Of course, somebody could probably claim that it's "Fake News".
There have even been Holocaust deniers making claims that the Russians constructed the German Concentration Camps after the War, which I can only assume includes those Camps in western Germany such as the one outside Schwaebisch Hall where the Russians never reached.

But, there seems to be a lot of "Fake News" on the furtherest Planet on the Right.

  15. How old is the stele, what does it say, and does it say that everyone was required to return to their hometown?

  16. @7:57- It was erected in the reign of Tiberius, which would put it somewhere between 14 and 37 AD, it pretty well follows what Luke wrote (or maybe what Luke's sources said, remember that Luke never knew Jesus) and since it concerned itself with taxation of property and Judea was patriarchal, yes Joseph would have had to return to his ancestral home to claim and pay tax on his ancestral property.

I don't hold much faith in Luke's accuracy, since he was an "apostle" of Paul (Saul), and like Paul never knew Jesus, but the census was recurring, I think (emphasize think) it was held every seven years in Judea, instead of every fourteen as in Egypt.

I know that some scholars dismiss Luke's account since he refers to both Herod and Publius Quirinius and there is a conflict, but those sceptics, in my opinion, rely too much on the writings of Josephus, who was writing at least a hundred years after the events, and ask for too much accuracy on poor Luke's part.
