KANSAS CITY POLITICAL CHALLENGE: COULD TRANSIT ACTIVIST CLAY CHASTAIN DEFEAT CONGRESSMAN CLEAVER?!?!

The latest from this longtime local petitioner, here's his next political objective . . .

Clay Chastain considers run for Congress to oust Emanuel Cleaver.

I believe I stack up well against Congressman Cleaver to win Missouri's 5th Congressional District seat. Not only that, Cleaver started my problems with City Hall when he refused to abide by Judge Holliger's court order (1995) to place my petition initiative (to restore Union Station as a regional transportation center) before voters. Judge Holliger wrote (in my winning lawsuit against the City) that Cleaver and the City "had hindered democracy." And the City has been hindering democracy ever since then.

After 35-years as an emotionally-charged preacher / reactionary politician (who has no great piece of legislation to his credit), Congressman Cleaver has run his race. In his 15-year Washington career, Cleaver has been a predictable party-line voting liberal democrat (96% of the time) and dispenser of federal pork including scores of millions for the City's novelty streetcar and the eastside Green project, etc.). What our nation really needs more of are innovative, moderate and independent-thinking representatives who don't waste taxpayer money and who can work with the other side to construct great pieces of legislation to solve our nation's pressing problems. Today, too many representatives, like Cleaver, vote just to better position themselves and their party to win the next election. We need a new brand of genuine leaders in Washington that think for themselves and put country, not party, first.

What's more, Cleaver has been politically wounded by his recent support of the City's back room dealing and unlawful attempt to change the name of the Paseo, his racist remark referencing the Klu Klux Klan (directed towards Save the Paseo supporters who crashed a political rally Cleaver was holding in a church) and his support for expanding City Hall's ill-conceived and ill-enacted "Touristy Frou Frou" streetcar system that does nothing to help black people get to jobs or improve transit times.

As a problem-solving electrical engineer, renovator of 30 historic homes, successful owner of a landscape design business and a long term KC activist dedicated to creating solutions to improve Kansas City, I believe myself well-suited to oust Cleaver. Not only that, I understand the dynamics of Kansas City as well as the country. And, since I have a long track record of standing up to the corruption at City Hall, no one should doubt my resolve to stand up to the special interests that dominate and contaminate Washington. I will do my part to "Drain the Swamp" (in both Washington and Kansas City) and represent the interests of the people.

My campaign motto will be..."IN GOD I TRUST."

  2. Actually, I like what he had to say about the Paseo. He might find some support on that, a lot of people were frustrated with the congressman's statements.

  6. Are you f-ing kidding me? Clay can't even get enough support to get his name on the ballot for mayor, how does he think he can make a run for congress...especially in a state he doesn't even live in. This man is completely delusional and a prime example of a textbook narcissist.

  7. We need somebody more energetic than Cleaver. Cleaver takes the district for granted. We need somebody with new ideas. He is one of those career congressmen not interested in taking risks.

  8. a delusional, narcissistic gad-fly. Somewhere is a village that needs and idiot...we have plenty. If the Star and TKC would quit giving this nitwit exposure he might go there.

Surely there must be at least a couple people in Jackson County and KCMO who are competent serious folks who just might run for office, in election, and actually try to serve the public instead of themselves.

  27. I'm willing to finally give Clay a chance. Can he really do any worse than Sly ? I think he has a genuine interest in improving life here (i.e. lightrail to actually get people to work, not just tourists on a trolley) and not just improving his bank account.
