Bike Walk KC: Pablo Sanders dies of injuries from Christmas crash, memorial fund set up for his family

Statement:

"We are saddened by the news that Pablo Sanders passed away this afternoon. He was hit while biking across Southwest Trafficway Christmas Eve and had been hospitalized since then . . . Our thoughts are with Pablo’s family and loved ones at this time, and with families and loved ones of everyone who died while walking or biking this year."

Update statement from Mayor Quinton Lucas:

"I’m saddened to hear of Mr. Sanders’ death. Too many cyclists and pedestrians here have died over recent years. We have to complete our unfinished work and seek new ways to protect all, not just some, traveling throughout our city. My heart goes out to Pablo’s friends and family."

    1. How do the police know if his helmet was or wasn't attached correctly? If a car hit him and he hit the hood then hit the pavement I am pretty sure his helmet took a beating. He had lights on his bike also. There are people who have made comments about hitting cyclists and they have made remarks filled with hate. People can't even let loved ones have peace during a time like this.

    2. Yea it was fun until I heard he passed. Nothing hateful, just locker room trash talk.sorry for your loss

Probably wouldn't be so much "hate" if the ARROGANT BIKE RIDERS didn't demand the citizens pony up millions for "bike lanes" which disrupt thousands of daily commuters while HARDLY A BIKE RIDER is to be seen in their designated SPECIAL PLACES.

As a motorcycle owner, I face the same exposure, yet I cannot (and don't wish to) use the SPECIAL LANES FOR SPECIAL PEOPLE. I've been riding for over fifty years without a mishap with an automobile, because I ride defensively, knowing I lose if challenging a car.

Little sympathy here for the (mostly queer) special folks.

    2. It makes a lot of difference if they’re queers or normal people. Queers think they’re unique and rules don’t apply to them. Normal people don’t.

      Delete
    3. Yet this "normal" expects society to continue to pamper him by always spending billions on the poisonous high speed transportation infrastructure that he feels he is owed.

What is so difficult to understand about it?

  6. Ever notice how everything Bike Walk KC does only makes everything worse?

They should be banned permanently from local politics and City Hall.

  7. Bike/WalkKC claims the intersection of the accident is badly designed but they never criticize the fiasco, which they created, on Armour. This fiasco had to be redone because the bike lanes created unsafe intersections by impairing vehicle traffic's vision at these intersections.

  8. These BikeWalk KC thugs hassled me one time because I slowed down and went around them very carefully while they blocked the street and flow of traffic.

    Vicious nasty people

  9. Bike Walk KC want to make it easy for them to disrupt your life when they are the problem. The public road system built over the past 150 years is designed originally for the horse and buggy, there were bikes back then but they didn't have bike lanes and had to dodge horse turds. Now we have motorized buggies, AKA cars and trucks, that are vital to building and maintaining the city and getting folks to their jobs and home again efficiently. Still no bike lanes because there is such a limited amount of cyclists today. Bikes are not coming into the mainstream they remain a fringe form of transportation. Yet the few cyclists want their own infrastructure in special lanes. But they don't ride at the speed limit, they don't provide tax revenue, they don't carry licenses or insurance that are required of auto and truck drivers. Then when one of their own runs a red light and gets killed we are all supposed to put him and cyclists above everything else. My question is why didn't Pablo put us above him and stop for the light? Why did he break the law and cause a law abiding car driver to be emotionally scared for life? Because his cause was more important to him than life itself. I pray for his soul but not Bike Walk KC.

    1. How amazing in your long comment you didn't have room to also mention that motor vehicles are driving climate meltdown that is costing trillions of dollars. Why do you hate science so much that you think you can just ignore fully verified climate science?

      Delete
    2. If cars and man are responsible for climate change, why did the ice sheets that once covered North America melt? There was little to no impact from the Neanderthals that roamed this area. Did man or cars cause the North and South Poles to flip? Do cars or man cause solar flares? Seems like these items were in place long before man was. So you're either trolling or you're an absolute delusional uneducated person

    3. If corn fields have to be planted by farmers then why does prairie grass grow so well without farmers? Your asinine drivel has nothing to do with the science of determining the actual causes of climate change so please just shove your intentionally ignorant head back into your shithole.

    4. My apologies to you I thought I was dealing with another educated individual not some basic education loser. Explain to me about solar flares and where the North American ice cap went? How did the poles flip from north to south? Do you even understand the basics? I think not sad

Pablo was a dumbass. Pablo did what every parent teaches their child not to do on a bicycle. Did not have his helmet fast and was wearing dark clothing at night and he ran the light. Do bicyclist have to carry Insurance to the damage he caused to the other person's car or for any psychological damage caused to the driver because of his negligence. Can someone find the toxicology report I'm sure he had to be under the influence but was probably riding while stupid

  11. To bad he dies but in short he killed himself or one could call it suicide by bike.

Set up a memorial fund but I hope the guys car he hit sues the fuck out of his family for mental duress due to Pablo hitting his car and dying.

  12. Really pisses me off when I see statements like this:

"Late on the night of December 24, 2019, our beloved Pablo Sanders Jr. was riding his bike and was hit by a car."

Pablo hit the car, the car didn't hit him. Pablo ran the red light the car operator didn't break any law. Plain and simple Pablo didn't give a fuck about the laws concerning traffic and I question the story about lights and so forth since everytime or any pictures I have ever seen of this guy he didn't have a helmet on or it wasn't on right and never once did I see him with lights on his bike. You fucking bike riders in the area and your little groups should be condemning this man for all the things he had done wrong that night he recklessly rode his bike in a manner that resulted in his death. I knew this guy and knew him to be an arrogant asshole which is why he has had so many jobs around here due to his lack of responsibility to act like a responsible person. Too bad he died but as another person said here he basically died by his own actions and not that of another.

I'll be glad when the police release the report or make a formal statement about what happened so these BikeKC clowns get a healthy dose of reality thrown at them. The police have to do it now that it will be handled and recorded as a traffic fatality.

  13. There are more elderly people driving each day. People wont give up the keys. They are a danger to bike riders and people in cars. A bike is 15 lbs of small tubes. Any car can completely destroy a bike. Bikes offer no safety. Matter of fact the bike parts will impale you. Your better off being hit just standing alone.

  22. Hopefully this will bring to light to all cyclists the importance of wearing reflective outerwear when riding at night and also ALWAYS obeying the traffic signals.

Most unfortunate for this cyclist to die from this avoidable incident.

May his family be comforted and supported by the cycling community.

Most unfortunate for this cyclist to die because he was too stupid to avoid a preventable accident. There, fixed it.

  31. It’s really disgusting how hateful this city is. I cannot believe the comments in this thread. You should all be ashamed of yourselves. Accidents happen and maybe he was being irresponsible. But he’s dead now. So please stop writing these horrible things about him. His family will see this. If your friend or loved one made a stupid mistake that killed them, would you find it nice to read things like this after their death? For fucks sake.

  33. I swear I saw this guy riding through Brookside on 55th that night. He swooped in front of me after running a ed light. Stared right in my eyes as he did it. I nearly ran into him. If this is the same person, I'm genuinely not surprised because he drove as if he was glazed over and not all there.
