Kansas City 2019 Homicide Count Dec. 30th

Today's updated blue sheet from the KCPD reported 148 homicides so far in KCMO.

That's a 7.25% increase over last year and the number is lower than we expected after a spate of shootings this weekend. This year the Kansas City star calculated the homicide number to include officer-related shootings that prosecutors have declined to charge. But, after our blog community put the issue on blast, more local media outlets moved to follow the UCR/FBI data instead.

And so, with about 27 hours left to go in 2019, we're hoping KCMO can avoid a homicide count of 150 and make progress toward curbing the murder number this year and into the future.

  1. I hope we end up at 154. Records were made to be broken. Get out the Colt .45 malt liquor and get busy.
