Extended tax collection hours begin Saturday

More than half of Jackson County real property tax bills already paid in full

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Beginning this Saturday, Jackson County taxpayers can take advantage of extended weekend hours to make in-person payments on their tax bill.

The Historic Truman Courthouse, located at 112 W. Lexington in Independence, will be open from 8 a.m. – Noon on December 14, December 21 and December 28 for taxpayers to also obtain a copy of their bill, make changes to their account or ask questions of the Assessment and Collection Departments.

More than half of real property tax bills have already been paid in full.

“This is a great opportunity for taxpayers to get the help they need and pay their tax bill at a time that works with their schedule,” said Whitney Miller, Director of Collection. “Our goal is to make this process as convenient as possible, whether you are planning to pay in person, online, or using our myJacksonCounty app, we strongly encourage you to make your payment as early as possible to ensure you avoid any late payment penalties, interest, or fees that are required by state law.”

To save time and avoid lines, making a tax payment is quick and easy through the Jackson County website or via mobile device with the free app called myJacksonCounty. Taxpayers can make a secure payment with a credit card, debit card or e-check with or without setting up an account. All major credit cards are accepted online. Online payments must be made by 11 p.m. on December 31 to be considered timely.

If taxpayers don’t believe they have received a bill, they can check their account online, call the Department of Collection at (816) 881-3232 or visit in person to find out the amount due. State law requires that property taxes must be paid by December 31.

  1. Don't forget to mention the pay in protest option as well.

  2. Because people have a mortgage and they pay the taxes as part of your house payment that’s why.

    1. Right. Half of the City is mortgaged and property owners don't have an option when the bank pays the taxes through escrow. Surely, that dumb ass Gail Beatty knows this.

  7. That's the first-rate PR staff that wipes Frank's butt and puts out crap like this, and we're all paying for it. Like everybody else has pointed out, the bank that I've got my mortgage with, they paid my taxes already, whether I wanted them to or not. And I'll be getting a notice soon informing me my payments will be going up to cover the increased taxes.

  8. Frank and Gail are either stupid, or they think we're all pretty stupid. I'm still waiting to hear from the BOE and am going to appeal to the state tax commission. The mortgage company still paid the bill it got sent already. God these so-called public servants are insulting the public with this PR BS.
