WILL FREEBIE BUS RIDES HELP BANKRUPT KANSAS CITY?!?!

After City Hall discussion yesterday it turns out that not everybody is excited about this move and despite the long, local march toward socialism . . . Basic economics make it unsustainable from the outset. Take a look:

Free Kansas City public transit proposal advances, despite projected budget shortfall

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Free public transit throughout all of Kansas City moved a step closer to becoming reality after a city council committee endorsed the idea on Wednesday. At least one council member is warning that city taxpayers may not be able to afford zero-fare bus service.

  2. Free bus rides will help our economy. The tattoo shops, liquor stores and dope dealers will flourish.

  3. Not alone, but together with destroying kci, the useless boondoggle toy train, the pot holes to come, the coming snowy winter, corporate giveaways and tax abatements, 18th n vine, people with money leaving, changing demographics from earners to low wage and unemployable welfare recipients, ineffective policing due to pc culture, and an incompetent council and mayor will turn this city into detroit in 10 -15 years.

  4. What about people who have worked hard to get away from the free bus ride types? We don’t want the great unwashed of KC showing up in our area.

It can, may, or will happen a lot sooner then that. My bet is sooner rather then later.

8:01 makes a nice point. But you should say those who pay the taxes are the ones who will be least likely to ride a bus while those who don't pay in anything will ride them just for grin and giggles cause now it's free. So a loaded bus takes more fuel to operate than say one with four or five people paying their way. How about this you can ride for free with a card from the city after you show them your tax returns from the previous year and if your made same as a retired person on social security or less you get a ride for free card. If you don't pay up sucker. And start charging for the damn fake ass street car crap.

  9. I will never let my daughter ride the bus if it goes free. it's already bad enough with a fare. God damn KC does everything it can to push families and their much bigger tax bases to the suburbs

  10. Does this mean no more beggars will be asking me for “bus fare”?

  11. Means criminals can go where the stores don't have chain link fencing over the windows.

  13. Making the bus free will mean an end to any expansion of the bus, or making it run more frequently with more buses, or buying all 100% electric buses. It might be free, but it won't be progressive. Keep the fares and City Hall should take that money and make the bus system better than it currently is.
