What it means to pay property taxes under protest

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Jackson County residents and property owners will soon receive their tax bills, and those planning to appeal their assessments must still make that payment, according to a local attorney. Whitney Miller, director of the collections department for Jackson County, said that about 60,000 bills are sent out between Veterans Day and Thanksgiving.

  2. Yeah, my car taxes went up. I gotta look at the bill from last year but my car is a 2006. Bought it new. So, I have more than paid my fair share. Maybe if theyd crackdown on all the people driving on expired temp tags, theyd have the money they need. But nooooo... its people out here driving on temp tags that expired 3-5 years ago. I cant understand how theyre getting away with it, either.

  3. ^^^Not saying you're wrong but what, exactly, are you basing this on? Is there some sort of study out there that has detail on how much KC is losing on people driving on temp tags? And 3-5 years? Really?

  4. 3-5 years isn't that unusual, honestly. Since sales taxes on vehicle purchases are paid when you register, there's your sales tax loss to the taxing entities.
