TKC SATURDAY NIGHT PLAYLIST!!! JFK AND KANSAS CITY STAR REMEMBERED!!!

Tonight TKC stumbled upon a treasure at Prospero's for only two bucks.

Closest accurate description from Amazon . . .

The Torch Is Passed: A Complete Story and Pictorial Record of the John F. Kennedy Assassination (Historic News Pages of The Kansas City Star and The Kansas City Times, Depict the Dramatic Events of the Four Days from Dallas to Arlington . . .

It's not exactly a collecter's item but the book plays a big role in the blogging life of TKC.

As a youngster the images in these pages loomed large and offered a glimpse at American politics filled with tragedy, deceit and iconic moments.

It's fun to bash the Star but this book might be the greatest journalism ever witnessed by the metro area.

There was little analysis or punditry, just a simple documentation of history as it happened and sold to readers for posterity. Apropos for this week as the U.S. remembered the 56th anniversary of the JFK assassination.

Lesser known fact, the same anniversary for Lee Harvey Oswald is tomorrow. The self-proclaimed "patsy" deserves to be remembered by everyone working diligently to NEVER get in over their head lest they are swept into path of history by greater forces.

And still the world keeps turning despite tragedy.

This book offers a representation of the newspaper industry at the height of their power before TV had completely overtaken dead-tree media as the main provider of influence and news dissemination.

With a parent company unable to make pension payments, seeking government bailout and facing record low demand . . . The Kansas City Star is dead on its feet and doesn't know it yet. Very much like the fate of JFK was sealed when his motorcade turned down Elm Street . . . In 2020, the newspaper will no longer be a daily publication and will become just another blog in the very near future.

And so tonight we share this vision of the printed word and a few songs that speak to the legacy of JFK and the great American newspaper --  Both, now nearly forgotten by the NEXTGEN as the nation forges a path ahead and into the unknown . . .

As always, thanks for reading this week and have a safe and fun Saturday night.
