TKC MUST READ!!! JACKSON COUNTY DEMOCRATS CLAIM PREZ TRUMP HURTING GOP AS THEY LOOK AHEAD TO 2020!!!
Despite tax turmoil and a great deal infighting, for right now we offer a quick look at Jackson County Democrats showing more than a bit of confidence against Prez Trump confronting impeachment.
Jackson County Democrats: Chairman Wrabec Releases Statement After Elections
The results of last Tuesday’s elections across the country have brought more great news to Democrats and all citizens one year ahead of the 2020 general election. In Virginia, the once solid Republican majority in their legislature has quickly become a minority in just two years as Democrats now control the House, Senate and Governorship. In bright red Kentucky, the incumbent Governor was defeated just hours after President Trump told a crowd that an unlikely defeat would “send a really bad message … You can’t let that happen to me.”
Missouri was no exception to the good night of results. Democrats won 5 of 6 races for State Representative including flipping a suburban St. Louis seat long held by Republicans that was recently vacated by the Missouri GOP’s Executive Director. In south Kansas City, first time candidate Mark Sharp outperformed expectations over a Republican establishment candidate drawing higher turnout than predicted.
The results along with outcomes in the 2018 election show a number of truths in our current political reality. First, voters are running away from Republicans in the suburbs. From Orange County, CA to Richmond, VA the trend has been obvious. The “Blue Wave” post 2016 has come down on middle and upper middle class suburbs across the nation and the remaining Republicans there are vulnerable. The same trend elected Keri Ingle and Matt Sain to the Missouri State House and Lauren Arthur to the State Senate in 2018 then brought victory for Trish Gunby in St. Louis County last week.
Next, while Donald Trump certainly isn’t helping the Republican brand in these areas, the real reason for the backlash is the extreme policy agenda they have forced on the public. Deeply unpopular regressive tax plans, unreasonable restrictions on women’s rights, attacks on unions, and countless broken promises have proved Republicans simply cannot be trusted to effectively manage government.
Finally, we know that when Democrats run and focus on the policies that matter most to voters, they win. Next year, Democrats in Jackson County and across Missouri will connect with voters on a platform of public education, ending government corruption, responsible job creation and other issues that matter to our citizens the most. We are excited to share our message in all areas of the county and state over the next year and, with hard working candidates, we’ll see continued gains in the Missouri General Assembly and retake the executive offices lost in 2016. The fight has already begun and we’re here to win.
