TKC EXCLUSIVE!!! REMATCH: KC TENANTS 'BILL OF RIGHTS' WORSENS RIFT BETWIXT MAYOR QUINTON LUCAS AND COUNCIL LADY KATHERYN SHIELDS' COALITION!!!

Kansas City landlords now run hat-in-hand to 12th & Oak in hopes that the hint of Council opposition against Mayor Quinton Lucas can save their properties from massive local support for progressive municipal policy in the lead up to the 2020 election season.

To wit . . .

COUNCIL NOW SERVES AS THE BATTLE GROUND FOR LOW-INCOME POPULISM!!!

To be fair, whilst more strident activists denounce corporate "home provider" ownership, the reality is that plenty of working-class people make their cash from collecting rent as well . . .

Remember . . .

Mayor Lucas introduced this effort and continues his advocacy which propelled his mayoral campaign to success . . . KC Tenants tout via FB:

"I do believe the Tenants Bill of Rights is legally ironclad," said Mayor Quinton Lucas at a press conference with KC Tenants on Wednesday.

Meanwhile . . .

The KC Landlords or "home providers" are late to the game and have been outmatched in the initial press battle. However, now they seem to understand how KC politics works and that a bunch of old white dudes begging TV news for a quote doesn't really count as effective lobbying. Instead, they've been forced to be more cleaver in their politicking  . . .

NOW, behind the scenes they're actually paying marginally skilled consultants to meet with Council and make their pitch.

Accordingly . . .

The only real opportunity for Kansas City landlords is to expose a rift that developed among Council in the debate over the Strata project. In that discussion Council Lady Shields led a biz friendly faction to victory in an EXTREMELY sketchy downtown development deal.

Reps for the landlords are making promises/threats about their ability to function under the "Bill Of Rights" advocated for by the KC Tenants that will undoubtedly increase their costs, possibly thin their profit margins and definitely establish more oversight and regulation over the local rental game.

And so . . .

The second Housing Committee meeting to deliberate the proposal has been rescheduled to December 2.

In the meantime, Kansas City considers this topic in the context of continued debate over rising socialism and/or rights to healthcare, wages and affordable housing in the lead up to the 2020 election.

  1. KC tenants will probably take this one.

If the landlords are smart they'll just work to gut it instead of going for an outright victory. The real problem is with enforcement, if there's nobody to monitor the property than you can pass all of the laws you want but it won't matter. That'll be the first clause to get pushed out.

    1. Quinton Lucas should dump them too. It's not something that most people care about and the welfare conversation is distracting from more pressing problems. Just wait till it gets cold. These streets are going to be a mess.

  4. I don't want to be called a "geezer" because I'm still in my 30s and I love the spirit of the KC Tenants but I've looked at their legislation and they only thing it will really accomplish is to raise rents even higher around the metro.

    1. They are too dumb to understand that and along with the fact they are getting gift cards meant for the homeless by attending Council meetings, they dont care!

  5. Let the city make whatever rules they want. instead of wasting money to defeat it the land owners saving the cash will take it to court where the whole stupid mess will be thrown out and Lucas exposed for the extreme idiot he is.

  6. Lucas is an even worse mayor than expected. This is not ironclad in anyway and will be challenged in court and lose. However, it shouldn't even be in acted in the first place

  7. Landlords will be able to get around this easy. Here's what you do: Long before you ever put that sign out that states, "For Rent" assemble a document called a "Summary of Rental Standards." This document is a document you present to every and any person coming to look at your apartment. It is like a menu of qualifications in order to rent the apartment.

    Rent
The first thing you must do is an accurate market study to make sure your rent price is right at market rates (not below and not above). You want to ensure that you use multiple sources of information to derive what market rent is for the apartment. Comps alone will not give you a full picture, only a thumbnail. A second source of information for your research is the State Housing Finance Authority. Most publish a document annually that breaks down market rents, by price, location, demographic (yes, this will give you a solid idea of how much negroes are allegedly paying for rent) Now that you have a bona fide rental amount, hopefully your sources will allow you to economically exclude negroes from renting your apartment.

    Occupancy
Most municipal codes limit occupancy. There will be an ordinance or rule that states there must be approximately x number of square feet per person occupying. RELY ON THAT. Include it in your rental standards so that when Shaniqua and her 12 spawn come a calling for a two-bedroom apartment, it becomes "crystal clear to all concerned that Shaniqua does not qualify.

    Refuse Section 8/Housing Vouchers
In this State, Landlords are under no obligation to accept portable vouchers, housing assistance or other such included housing programs. Since Section 8 is 99.999999999999999% negroes...good deal!

    Credit/Criminal Background Check
Make this part of your screening process. you may deny a tenant with adverse credit, criminal backgrounds and other less stellar public records reports. So when Tyrone comes a calling and his only means of income is selling crack and engaging in Negronomics...even a liberal, looking to profit from his building is going to turn this buck away. An unverifiable source of income is not sufficient for tenancy approval.

Finally, know how to answer questions...

Baiting Caller: Hi, do you rent to Blacks?
Your response should be: I rent to anybody and everybody that is economically and suitably able to qualify.

Baiting Caller: Do you rent to people with kids?
Your response should be: we rent apartments to families. How many people will be occupying the apartment? NEVER! "how many kids do you have"

Baiting caller: "Do you accept Section 8?
Your response should be: We presently do not have a relationship with the state where we can accept section 8.

While it is NOT LEGAL to refuse to rent to Negroes, It IS LEGAL to set specific rental criterias where, incidentally, 99.9% of negroes are likely to be incidentally excluded.

So keeping them in their place is super easy. You just need to know how!

  8. The "right to counsel in a landlord-tenant matter" is an interesting one. Considering how many mom/pop landlords handle their own evictions, I'm sure there will be great love for paying for the deadbeat's lawyer while representing yourself.

  9. This is really an effort to force poor people out of KC because the only rental units KC wants are luxury apartments downtown.
