Want To Go Solar In Kansas City? Here Are 5 Things You Need To Consider

Residents in the Kansas City metro are increasingly choosing to power their homes with rooftop solar panels. It's a choice spurred by both the promise of lower monthly energy bills and concern for the environment. But barriers to "going solar" remain, especially for low- and middle-income households.

  1. No we don't want to spend money we don't have (go into debt) on solar.

  2. What they don’t talk about is how many years it takes to break even, when your mortgage can get paid off before you break even on solar....

  3. Reminds me of the time when Barry with his genius environmental joke of a plan, he allowed the price of gasoline to get so high that people started complaining about how expensive it was to fuel their suv’s, about $150 a month. He tried to force people to buy electric vehicles, well, that didn’t work out so well now did it. Electric vehicles were costing about $500 dollars a month to pay for. Three times as much as keeping their suv. real genius at work right there!

  4. What's it going to cost to have all that solar stuff removed come time to fix your roof that has rotted under the panels? I asked that question for a client who asked me to be there when they talked to a company about installing solar panels. The salesman had no answer. I'm not against solar but it isn't the cheap way to go on a house yet do too costs of installing correctly. A local bank tried to go green with solar panels and so far the only green seen has been the green spent in dealing with it.

  5. ^^^ the panels won’t last as long as a good roof will so.....

  6. Panels will be way outdated technology before the 1 /2 mark to break even arrives.

  7. Solar panel frenzy has become a scam. I put them in myself and cost me nearly a third of the cost. Many installs I see are plain wrong and shouldn’t have happened. Solar companies disappear. My tips...
Consider a company that has been around for a long time, electrical but has entered solar
Don’t believe you can sell electricity back to the grid, you buy 0.14 cents a Kw when you sell back for 0.03 cents a Kw to feed the grid. Eventually this will go away.
Don’t try to offset your entire use. Sometimes upgrading your appliances, windows, doors, led lights, helps a lot. So if you offset a %100 you lose money as your appliances upgrade because you sell your power for cheap.
Batteries cost will drop, you could install now and only offset 50% then add a battery and it will provide you power at night. Best time to get solar is clear roof from 9 to 3. Instead of going to grid, it recharges your battery and powers your home while you are at home.
Because money needs to be made, chances are you won’t get a quality install. The companies have a high turn over, and are pushed to be off the roof fast, employees are not well paid, consequently they don’t give a shit about your roof.
