In much the same way that following hottie Lais via social media keeps us abreast of the fashion world . . . We rely on our KICK-ASS TKC TIPSTERS to help track the important daily deets of journalism.

To wit . . .

TONIGHT THE TKC BLOG COMMUNITY NOTICES NEWSPAPER COMPANY McCLATCHY SINKING LIKE THE TITANIC!!!

Reader warning . . .

One more shot across the bow . . .

"Kansas City Star Should Have The Sinking Feeling. I wonder what church will buy their printing building? I'm sure printing religious tracts would be more profitable than last week's news and the latest marching order from the DNC."

A kinder insight . . .

"News of McClatchy tossing in the towel on its pension. I feel very sorry for all of its current employees, and retirees. (I am one of them)."

Accordingly . . .

Here's a link lineup featuring more insight into the quickly sinking fortunes of the Kansas City news biz, now circling the toilet bowl of history . . .

  1. It is nothing more than a tabloid today.

  2. OF COURSE it's a bad thing for KC.

We need more media not less, look at all that KC is getting away with as the newspaper suffers through a tough economic patch. There is very little awareness of the corruption and little that KC can do to fight it.

TV has picked up some of the slack but not all. The Star has the history to challenge elected officials. That's what KC needs.

    1. That might be what KC needs but we haven't had that since the 90s.

The paper is just a rag for a few people who still buy it out of habit.

At least vinyl sounds better than CD music. Newspaers are sometime fun to read but the KC Star has always been boring, stodgy and not worthy the money.

5 bucks for the Sunday issue?

      NO THANKS!

  5. The K.C. Star is a Progressive publication that traffics in Agitprop from apparatchiks.

Information comes in a distant second to the creations of Narrative Engineers who pose as "Journalists", but, in fact, are exact copies of the shills at The New York Times and the dead as fried chicken in "Darkness" Washington Post.

Maybe some local "White Knight" (Can I even say that anymore?), will come save the paper's bacon with a purchase and the storied paper of record for this dirty little town, can continue to repeat the days talking points, handed down on high, from the Democrat/Fascist machine.

I would actually buy a subscription (Then a prescription to kill the pain.) if they would turn on the comments and let it rip, like here at the ONLY REAL NEWS OUTLET IN THE CITY - TKC.

  11. I hope when they declare bankruptcy and close the doors they leave Porter bankrupt too. He’s the worst they have ever had there and that is saying something.

  13. A far fookin cry from the days of Joe McGuff. Saw him at lunch every day on Mcgee and could see he was straight outta the Bogart mold. When I started reading the unspeakable crap coming from Digiud and Janelle I always wondered where Mcguff stood. You could see the leftist nonsense coming all the way back in 97, and I'm sure a case could be made that its been there heavy since the 20s. It was always balanced out until about the Clinton era.

  14. I did not mean Janelle- but the monstrous beach named Osterheldt. Just like a Hitler who is convinced they are doing right , their willful ignorance will not matter to God on judgement day.

  15. The federal government/taxpayers should not be taking over the pensions foor this failed company.

  16. A Utah paper is trying to go non profit. Maybe the press of the future.

  17. The Star publishes/promotes fake news so the employees should receive a fake pension.

  18. It can’t sink fast enough, shit paper no more!

  19. ^^ Actually there's no need to re-write the Song, as it was written it's first two lines are (emphasis added)...

"Everything's up to date in Kansas City,
THEY"VEGONEABOUT AS FAR AS THEY CAN GO"

and it was written in 1943 - downhill since then!

  20. If the Star had dropped its print version ten years ago and had switched to a on-line daily version at say $5/month, they'd be doing fine right now.

  21. McClatchy, and thus the Star, cannot be saved.

    Their demise was a self-inflicted slow-motion suicide.

They incurred HUGE debt at precisely the wrong time in an economic cycle. The free market is supposed to kill off the foolish and unwise.

Besides the McClatchy family, those who hold their stock and debt, took those positions anticipating that the company would be forced to surrender and they could bleed them awhile before selling off the assets.

Using the Star as an example, when a business slashes head count, sells off it's real estate, and turns a deaf ear to consumers while plodding along in their well-worn rut, they don't deserve to continue on as a viable business.

Put them out of their misery. And watch how the California headquarters asks the bankruptcy court to discharge their employee pension obligations while corporate officers receive golden parachutes.

  22. 6:03, McClatchy has been non-profit for years. They led the way.

  23. Couple things that ruined the star:

They disable comments on stories...or at least made it insanely difficult to comment on them with facebook logins. WSJ allows only subscribers to comment and with relative anonymity.

They don't hold city gov't accountable for anything. It's fucking pathetic when there's so many great and hard hitting stories out there but they'd rather write pieces portraying a racist serial killer who only kills whites as a victim

The Star deserves to go out of business and should have 10 years ago or more. It's good for the city. It will lead to new opportunities for an actual local news organization to take hold

  24. if pension is bailed out, does that mean taxpayers will be paying star reporters' retirements?

    ReplyDelete
  25. USA Today is stopping publishing too.

    ReplyDelete
  26. 3:01, if their employee pension plan fails, the PBGC takes over the assets of the plan and assumes responsibility for pension payments. However, the PBGC has limits on what it will pay out, which could affect Star reporters' payouts, but I doubt that it would. Their salaries likely were never high enough to generate that kind of pension income. More likely it would affect editors and corporate suits.

  27. The Star's plastic newspaper sleeves are great for cleaning up dog poop.

  28. I gave up the ghostly paper 10 years ago. Got tired of the inconsistent delivery, the leftist bias and thin local news coverage. The last couple years I called it the KC Sporting News because essentially that's about all they covered. Last fall the Star offered me 3 months of home delivery FOR FREE! I said, "What the hell" and signed on. They failed to deliver 2 out of the first 3 papers so I cancelled my free subscription. It was that bad.
