SHOCK!!! KANSAS CITY MOUNTED PATROL SHUT DOWN AMID 2019 MURDER SPIKE!!!

A Kansas City of crowd control and community outreach takes a hit as public support of this unit wasn't able to outweigh KCPD manpower concerns.

First word from KCTV5 via Twitter:

KCPD mounted patrol will be put back out into the mix to help offset shortage of officers on the street . . .

More news from KSHB:

Chief Rick Smith has talked to mounted patrol to find a regional approach to keep the unit going BUT starting today those officers will move back to the streets.

This will allow current patrol officers to apply to the 8 open positions needed in violent crimes.

    1. Well, I have seen a kid turned around by becoming interested and engaging with mounted patrol. That's just one out of thousands. Beats the heck out of wasting funds on Saturday/Sunday morning radio pffts. They have grabbed a few bad guys along the way. Their main function is community care( like a beat cop but faster) outreach because horses are cool, crowd control because horses are bigger than you.

  3. Lets get rid of the dozens of worthless Captains, Majors and Sergeants that eat up the budget with their $100-120k salary and take home cars. This is a political move, if they want to actually improve things they need to start at the top

  10. $36-million toward a garage on a speculative office tower is a lot of hay. Just saying KCs priorities sometimes astound.
