KC TENANTS DISMISS LANDLORD PLEA FOR PROFIT AND DEMAND RENTER 'BILL OF RIGHTS' FOR KANSAS CITY!!!

Call it socialism on the rise, the beginning of a public housing renaissance or inevitable cost of living push back . . . Here's the word from the crusaders who were instrumental in crafting the current City Council . . . Checkit:

Last night the City Council's Special Committee on Housing Policy heard our KC Tenants Bill of Rights proposal for the first time. 85 of our leaders and allies gathered in a gorgeous demonstration of our joy, pain, struggle, indignation, care for one another, and vision for a better world.

After almost four hours of testimony on Wednesday, both parts of the Tenants Bill of Rights package — a resolution and an ordinance — were held. The Committee is expected to take the package back up at 4pm on November 13.

“There was no actual opposition to what is in the Tenants Bill of Rights itself,” Mayor Quinton Lucas said in a 41 Actions News report. “... I see no reason why that shouldn’t be able to pass next week out of committee.”

For months, leaders of KC Tenants have been working to research, gather input and meet with Council members. The package has been vetted by housing lawyers, the Mayor’s lawyer, and the City’s legal team.

“I am disappointed that we didn’t get a vote last night because we’ve put in the work for months. Our case was more than made with real experiences. Nobody denied what was being said,” said Tiana Caldwell, a KC Tenants leader. “There was no real opposition besides that the landlords kept saying they need to make a profit. My message for the Housing Committee? Pass our package. Pass it at the next meeting. Do the right thing, stand with tenants . . . ”

  2. The city and tenants are find out real soon that their will less lower priced units available. They will just have to just go downtown to those luxury apartments that the city champions.

  3. If you can't earn a profit, then why do it?

  4. "Pass it at the next meeting. Do the right thing, stand with tenants . . ."
At least that way they will have somewhere to live for another week or so....

  5. This is going to backfire big time. Tenants will have to pay more money for rent,and/or public housing will be a thing of the past. Yes this is socialism. But you know what? Let these idiots do this and watch what happens.

  6. That’s. Great idea, turn all the downtown lofts into the projects therefore guaranteeing full occupancy and truly fulfilling slies dream of a vibrant downtown!

  7. 6:37 is correct. What isn't mentioned, is the obvious outcome of this insanity. The tax payer will have to pay the rent for the people priced out of the market, because, you know..., we are the government and we are here to help.

    What a fuckin joke.

Forcing small business owners to accept restrictions on how they do business from politicians who couldn't run a Kool-Aide stand.

Hey! Maybe we should just do what Democrats do on the National Stage and turn everything over to some random bartender who thinks the world is going to end in 12 years because of cow farts and cars.

Initiatives like this, are prima facie, why every parent who sends their children to public schools, is guilty of child abuse. Three generations of dumbed down idiots matriculated into the public square, that think money grows on trees because it is the color green and Capitalism should be replaced with Venezuelan style Socialism. THIS, while they watch Venezuela crater into a real time, living, boots on the ground, Hieronymus Bosch painting.

Our children are so stupid, programmed, uninspired and lacking in nuance and insight, that they can't and don't make decisions based on objective reality. If it "FEELS" right, then they are wet by every Socialist rain and blown by every Communist wind.

It is what it is. Our children are uneducated retards.

  8. So Lucas folds to the "demands" of another little group.
With no serious thought given to the unintended consequences of a proposal made by people with ZERO responsibilities for the outcome.
And coming right on the heels of the Paseo fiasco.
You really can't make this stuff up!

  9. I think the Landlord group should on, the day this passes the stupid council, send out letters to all tenants that effective immediately the company is shutting down and they need to move out in ten days. Then within a week board up all the units to protect them from squatters and warehouse the appliances. Refuse all new rental applications until the ordinance is repealed. I'd also post that no one is allowed to loiter near the property or police will be called and do that.

  13. "There was no actual opposition to what is in the Tenants Bill of Rights itself"

How can anyone oppose a landlord looking into a potential renter's past rental history? This is some scary shit

  14. This will destroy the northland as it's already becoming more culturally "enriched". Perhaps that's their plan?

  16. This policy is nothing without rent control...it will be next.

It would be more efficient and just cut to the chase ... built housing projects, like Wayne Minor and have an overbearing police presence in and around the buildings. The able bodied tenants would also be forced to attend re-education training on self-sufficiency, proper attire and grammar.

  17. Good news about rent control...it will make your house's value skyrocket since there will no longer be an incentive to build new houses and renters will have zero incentive to move out of their current place

  18. I have noticed lots of apartment buildings going up in Jo Co. All the tenants who actually pay their rent reliably will move, leaving lots of space for the tenants rights populace in KCMO. They will have more opportunities to tear up properties, skip out on rent, and generally destroy more neighborhoods.
