Kansas Stays Losing Without Liberal Arts???

The Humanities are hurting in the Sunflower State and this public radio missive offers a perspective on why that might hurt both students and industry in the very near future . . . Take a look:

Liberal Arts Profs: Kansas College Students Will Lose Broad Knowledge With Fewer General-Ed Rules

For decades, a university education meant students had to load up on math, history and English courses. Now, Kansas universities are slashing those general education requirements so more students can graduate on time and have more room for classes in their major.

  1. I agree with the assertion there will be less general knowledge but the professors need to take that up with their state legislators and university administration. I didn't mind learning about Galileo or music appreciation when I was in school at a reasonable cost. As the parent of a freshman in college what I do mind is learning about Galileo or music appreciation to the tune of $500 a credit hour. That's at a state school, I know lots of places are much more expensive than that. I see a day where there is nothing but two year degrees and Liberal Arts degrees are virtually eliminated. I have a Liberal Arts degree but I graduated long enough ago I was able to find a career using that degree. No more. They are useless. I'm well aware college is supposed to be for gaining knowledge, not a vehicle to get a job but it is too expensive to live by that philosophy anymore.

  2. And yet I have a liberal arts degree and did just fine in a technical field. Weird.

  3. Have a finance degree but loved history courses in college. Also loved Greek Mythology. If you can't graduate on time, that's on you.

  5. 7:29 Art class taken as a KCPS student is not a degree. You're so stupid you didn't even know you got screwed. Technical field? I didn't know operating the fryer at McDuffus was considered a "Technical Field". Weird.

Don't try a lame come back since I just bitch slapped you over to next Tuesday.

  7. I'm retried motherfucker, 30 years in the service then another 20 years at a Ford plant. I get two retirement checks bitch and life is good for me right now. House paid off no car loans health is good so I can do whatever I want as I earned my right to fuck off for the rest of my life. So put your phone down and pay attention to your job since you burned my hashbrowns I had with my morning breakfast. Damn life must be hard when pushing a button, dropping a basket then forgetting why it's beeping at you when it's time to pull the basket out of the oil.

  12. 10:25: Note 10:02 refers to "I" and "me," never we. I think you called it pretty accurately. What family if any he has won't have anything to do with him.
